A while back, maybe a year (perhaps slightly less) I remember a story about a man from the US I believe, who was working for some sheik, or other wealthy person, I think of Muslim faith, in the middle east. Somewhere early on, he learns that a daughter is to be married off into an 'arranged marriage' and he either has a problem with that idea, or tries to talk the father out of it. It's a bit of a cultural immersion thing as I recall, as the reader learns along with the main character about a culture foreign to many in the West. At any rate, he ends up 'taking one for the team' essentially, agreeing to marry her, or asking for that to happen, instead of an arranged marriage. There's some drama, as she runs away from him for a while, or something along those lines. Anyway, I've lost track of the story and forgotten some of the more salient details, but I'd like to go back and reread it again if it rings a bell with anyone.

bump... nobody? I remember it causing at least a bit of a stir at the time, if only for the novelty of the location and cultural setup contained within.
