Being a single mother is being a single mother. Its different based on a lot of things, primarily income and also if single is a legal technicality or not. My older half brothers were not the result of "single mother" their parents got divorced and my father paid for it until they turned 18. Obviously that's not the sort of thing kids talk about but I never got the impression the kids who grew up in a house with a Nintendo and TV in the basement were doing worse than the kid in an apartment but being six doesn't give a lot in the way of perspective.
