Michigan’s “Right to Work” law already working

Shortly after the ink was dry on the state’s new “Right to Work” law, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder reports that state economic development officials are hearing from manufacturers interested in moving to area.

Snyder said it’s “premature” to name the companies, but indicated Michigan’s foray into the right-to-work movement may help change its image as a union stronghold.

“The phone’s already been ringing at the MEDC (Michigan Economic Development Corp.) since we passed that legislation,” Snyder said Friday in meeting with reporters. “People are starting to look at Michigan.”…

Rich Studley, president and CEO of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, said his phone has been “ringing off the hook” for the past week with calls from out-of-state business owners and economic development officials seeking confirmation of news accounts they read about the right-to-work law.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder: Obama Looked Me In The Eye And Said He “Wasn’t Pleased With Right To Work”…

I’m still a bit shocked Michigan passed right-to-work.

Via MLive:

Lots of folks scoffed in town when reports surfaced that Democrats had petitioned the President of the United States to insert himself into the unseemly debate over Right to Work. Some asked out loud, doesn’t POTUS have more important things to do than lobby Gov. Rick Snyder on that?

But lobby the president did.

During an exclusive one-hour sit down on WKAR-Public TV, the governor confirms that he and President Barack Obama shared a few minutes in private and the president looked the governor in the eye and said, “He wasn’t pleased with Right to Work,” Mr. Snyder reveals for the first time.

And the governor’s response?

Short, sweet and to the point. “I said thank you for sharing that with me.”

And that was it?

“Pretty much, yeah,” the GOP governor glibly recalls.

No. I just happen to be one more Litster that doesn't want to argue with you because you like to argue for the sake of arguing, nothing more. You like to stir things up and then sit back and act like Sherlock the Innocent, when in fact you are as the dear old Church Lady says, "Could it be SATAN"?

Now quit giving me bs and tell me what's the last thing you did for someone to make their day a little happier as it's the Christmas season.

BS

You attacked the "source".............which is TYPICAL of know nothings on LIT

so tell me

WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS?

I see you didn't refute the SATAN charge or mention happiness.

PS According to Mark McKinnon.."And the GOP is shrinking daily before our eyes."

doesn't answer the question I AXED:cool:

Yes, and we all know how well you answer questions. Again, you're arguing for the sake of arguing. I presume because you haven't been sent to the BDSM board yet. But I'm only guessing. :)

A political opportunist, a Democrat before he infiltrated the Republican Party to contaminate it with his brand of Rinoism.

Interesting that any Republican that doesn't believe in the current Tea Party cult mantra is labeled as an opportunist, infiltrator, a contaminator and a RINO. I guess GWB didn't see it your way when McKinnon worked for him. But then gw was more concerned with crippling the budget and the country by getting us into Afghanistan and Iraq. Now that's what I call patriotism at its finest. Just give the vets a parade when they get home, if they make it home, and a medal and that takes care of the vet problem.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder Going After The Unions Again, Signs Emergency Bill Allowing Termination Or Modification Of Union Agreements, Suspension Of Collective Bargaining…

Can’t imagine this is going to go over well with the pinky ring brigade.

Lansing — Gov. Rick Snyder signed a new emergency manager bill Thursday, 52 days after voters repealed a similar version of the law.

Snyder spokeswoman Sara Wurfel confirmed the replacement law is among 19 bills Snyder signed into law Thursday.

“These new laws recognize the vital importance of financially stable, economically vibrant communities to Michigan’s future,” Snyder said in a statement. “They also respect the needs of citizens and taxpayers by delivering greater oversight and efficiency. Our reinvention of government is delivering meaningful reforms that will keep Michigan on the path to prosperity.” [...]

Under the new law, the state could review the finances of a city or school district if the entity defaults on debt payments, has a six-month-old overdue bill of at least $10,000, fails to make payroll for a week or if requested by the governing body or chief administrative officer.

Cities and school districts in a financial emergency could choose from mediation, a state-supervised financial consent agreement, an emergency manager or Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy.

Under the old law, bankruptcy was only an option if an emergency manager determined it was the only viable option.

Emergency managers would have the ability to reject, modify or terminate labor union agreements — sweeping authority granted under the repealed 2011 law. Collective bargaining could be suspended for up to five years.

It is funny, the GOP keeps pitching the mantra that everything is the fault of unions, that if we just got rid of unions all the milk and honey will flow..what they can't explain, of course, is that unions represent less then 10% of private industry workers, yet somehow they are the root of all evil. They love to rant and rave about 'overpriced union workers' as the reason jobs go to china while decrying any criticism of executive pay or rich shareholders getting richer as "class warfare"....and wanna have fun with a teabag type? Ask them to explain how the average CEO in this country makes 400 times what a typical worker does, while in other countries it is about 30 times (a really successful CEO of companies outside the US makes about 1 million a year, total, in the US total comp is 15-20 million..and the CEO of a dying company, like Rick Waggoner of GM, could pull down 10 million while the company lost 4 billion...

Not to mention, of course, as the GOP and its blue collar and light blue collar types want to avoid, that anything compared to China is overpaid, the typical factory worker makes about 50c an hour, no benefits, works 6-7 days a week, 14 hours a day..and college graduates there, unless a small percent who go to an elite college, often make less....but hey, Unions did it all, they causes the current financial crisis, they created all those funny money financial investments, the fought to allow banks to merge with investment banks, they fought to give tax breaks for ceo compensation based on stocks, they did it all....and of course, Unions were behind the decision to build gas hogging SUV's, they were behind the decision to cheapen up on quality, they were behind such masterpieces of car design as the Pontial Solstice, the Cadillac Cimarron, and a variety of small cars that fell apart while their competitors made cars that lasted hundreds of thousands of dollars.....and want a little stat? The head of GM, in 1 year, made more then the head of Toyota did in 8 years, when Toyota was immensely profitable and overtook GM as the largest car company in the world..but hey, the unions did that, too they insisted CEO's be compensated that way. In China a typical CEO makes about 400 grand a year, should we impose that on the head of GE?
