Michele Bachmann says goodbye.

Seems like the article was pulled? I googled and the link showed up in top results for news but seems broken.

So she's leaving? Good riddance. I want to know if she really DID say goodbye to an empty room though because fucking awesome.

To speak into a microphone in an empty room and have your words transcribed and put into the federal register forever is not as ignominious an humiliation as you make it out to be.

damning with faint praise.

Nah, having not a single one of your "peers" even bother to show up isn't humiliating at all.

~shrug~ I tend to talk to myself, so perhaps that changes my view. Being immortalized in the congressional record would be cool. On the other hand what if it was on the same page as Joe Biden or Barney Frank?

At least she'd be in the company of people who will actually be remembered.

In Bachmann's defense (sort of), with the number of people leaving the House, not just this year but after every Congress, it's not really feasible for everybody to get a big audience for their farewell. Bachmann was only there 8 years; she wasn't a committee chair or in leadership. She was a celebrity, but not someone very important to the institution as a whole.

I'll miss her for ridicule purposes, but she will have no shortage of replacements.

Senate goodbyes usually get more fanfare -- there are fewer of them, and relationships are deeper.
