The creator of ER and the author of acclaimed fiction has died aged 66.

I'd always look for a Crighton if travelling without a book, his tales shortened the journey... pity his journey ended so soon. :rose:

I saw your thread just as I first heard it on HeadlineNews (right now).

He was a pretty amazing talent.

While I am sorry for any death, and my sincere condolences, does this mean the demise of the TV show ER? No offence to Crighton, but, Good Riddance.

Doubt it, I can't imagine he needed the income from writing scripts :D
Haven't seen ER for years.

I think he outlived 'ER'.

Micheal Crichton, M.D., was an extremely bright man who accomplished a great deal in an unusual variety of fields.

I particularly enjoyed (and benefited from) his excellent book, State Of Fear, which I commend to the attention of all.

His was a most active imagination. It saddens me to see it stilled.

NEW YORK (AP) - The family of Michael Crichton, the million-selling author of such historic and prehistoric science fantasies as "Jurassic Park,""Timeline" and "The Andromeda Strain," says the author has died in Los Angeles.

Crichton died Tuesday at age 66. He had been privately battling cancer, his family said.

"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand," his family said in a statement.

He, like Grisham, seemed to write with screenplay adaptation in mind -- at least his later works. Even so, he was usually worth plunking down a few bucks for a few hours' entertainment. He'll be missed.

Sad indeed. :(

He had a real knack for finding intelligent ways to suspend disbelief and was an excellent storyteller.

Eaters of the Dead...or 13th Warrior was a favorite of mine. Truly we have losted a great writer

Sphere was one of my favourite books as a teenager. Sad that he is now gone.
