The other day I was outside mowing
and bent over to pick up a stick
As I started to rise my vertebra
decided not to realign properly
causing damage to my left
Latissimus Dorsi Muscle.....

Advise given
The muscle will heal in six to eight weeks
Keep moving otherwise you'll start to spasm and seize up
Keep it warm and moist (?)
Take Vicodin and Norflex as needed

I think I'll go catch up on my reading

About 6 years ago, I broke my upper arm bone. I lost my balance and while falling, my shoulder muscle pulled the ball end of the bone open. It was a split of 5mm, just small enough to escape surgery and pins.

The only medical treatment was vicodin and a sling. I was told to take it easy, because a fresh break would require surgery.

After a year, I returned to full duty. The shoulder still hurt, especially when my arm was overhead. That was not the worst part. I also had a stabbing pain in my upper back. When the pain hit, there was nothing I could do, but go lie on my right side until it went away.

X-rays revealed a very elegantly curved spine. My backbone was 1/2 off center between the shoulder blades. They don't make a pill for that. I went back to the gym and resumed weight lifting and strength training, something I had avoided for almost 2 years. It took 8 weeks of regular (and quite painful) workouts, but sometime in week 8, I realized I had full pain free rotation in my shoulder. The back pains were gone as well.

The "warm and moist" instruction is a little strange. A whirlpool bath would be ideal.

The abdominal workout I do is on hold but everything else is tolerable. I normally take a two mile hike before work and again during lunch hour... I've cut that back to mornings only. Wish I had a whirlpool but alas I only
have a garden tub *sigh*

Get well.:rose::rose::rose:

Or I'll kill you.

Walking is good. Seems to unkink things. Just never walk further than crawling distance, just in case. And walk with a friend, they can look both ways, if you can't.

Thank You
I think the whole "I will kill you" thing was a bit dramatic :)

I've been trying to figure out why I can't vote or comment from my BB anymore.

hope your recovery is as swift and painfree as is possible, bulltlr

want me send some hunk over to help with the warm and moist part?

*fairy godmother impression*

I guess I should of asked what he meant about warm and moist part!
Not sure my significant other would appreciate another male making me all warm and moist :D

Get better soon, I don't know if you can lay your hands on any codeine phosphate but that's what I've been using since my fall, but like me I should be careful about sneezing ...... it tends to bring out horrendous language I never knew I knew!

Thanks! Codeine tends to knock me out cold and as far as speaking horrendous language... I do enough of that with out being under the influence! :)

I am of a generation that was taught not to swear, so the only time you'll hear it from me is under extreme provocation!

I guess working in a garage, surrounded by men who forget I am there.... well, I hear a lot of things and sometimes my brain picks those things up and then I tend to spew them forth without a thought

I used to be a WRAF and the men used to find it funny to not curb their language and to have pictures that would make your hair curl, so I've heard it all before ....... and as for the rugby crowd!!! well I do know some very hair raising rugby songs so I'm no prude ! I've found that when I do swear it has more of an impact because those people around me know it isn't something I do on a regular basis!
