metrosexuals, wtf?!

A metrosexual is basically a guy who lives in the bathroom alot.

It's basically when a straight guy who decides to "play gay". He basically follows what a flamboyant homosexual's lifestyle. It varies between merely shaving pubic hair to a full-out make-over. They just think that by being "queer" that they are going to get the chicks.

Just when you thought the board couldn't get more inane..

Hmm, that's not the definition of metrosexual that I know.

From what I understand, it just means that a guy 'primps' more than most. Like taking care of his skin, getting manicures, 'doing' their hair, etc. I didn't know that was 'acting gay.'

There's even a movie called "Metrosexuality" (British, 2001). Funny as hell.

Reminds me of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.

Think more of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever for the primeval metrosexual.

My understanding was that it meant a straight man with "gay style", whatever that means.

I definitely don't think gays came up with it.

I actually think the gay community might have come up with. I've only heard it used in a durogatory manner and if straight people had come up with the term it probably wouldn't be so friendly. One of my girlfriends (female friends, not lovers) calls them "Fauxmos" which is a lot less nice.

I saw an internet test once to find out how metrosexual a guy was. It was tongue in cheek, but it did have quite a few questions that seemed to define the genre. I can't remember the link off the top of my head, but the questions involved chest shaving, use of scented body sprays, carrying of a "man purse", manicures, researching fashion trends, etc.

Personally I don't find metrosexuals attractive at all. If I wanted to be with someone with a smooth chest, who dressed better than me, and smelled like perfume it'd be a good thing I was bi because I would also want them to have a vagina.

I don't like them if they are gay or straight, or male or female! Taking care of the body is one thing, and if done right even a little bit of makeup is okay, but anything more I even thing a little bit disgusting.

It's a term straights came up with.

There are still large segments of our population who think 'real' men should be strong, uncouth slobs and like to define all manly activities as deriving from a mythical caveman ancestor. Anything else is gay, meaning feminine.

I guess in their mind James Bond was a flaming straight man.

Personally, I just use the term metro as I don't think it reflects on a man's sexuality at all. Some men have a definite sense of style. Why punish them for it?

I didn't understand this, but James Bond? Now I see.

I don't know the english word, but I think here we use to say "Tunte" to a male with "metrosexual" behaviour who is gay... :D These people might even be women, but for them I know no name.
But it's ever the same sh**: "Oh, my hair! My nails! Does my ass look big? Do you think I should use more make-up? The red of these shoes does not fit well to my eye-color! O god, are these wrinkles?! Where is my eye-liner? I need my beauty rest! Oh, I think I have to call my therapist..."

;)

ok I just broke out my pop culture class notes for this...

the term metrosexual was coined by
british author Mark Simpson in '94

actual definition-

young men w/ money to speand near an urban area,
and have taken to themselves as sex objects

Metrosexuals check out:
#1 himself
#2 other metro's (their competition)
#3 women who will make him look stylish

this is what is passing for a college definition these days....

I'm trying to work out that how using moisturiser or waxing my body hair somehow effects my sexual preferences.

I don't think the term 'metrosexual' has anything to do with your sexual preference at all. It has more to do with your appearance. (From my understanding, anyway. Whatever that's worth.)

That's also the way I understand the term as well. I've seen a lot of metrosexuals when I go clubbing, and they're usually the guys with the most expensive shoes. *LOL
