PITTSBURGH - United Methodist law clearly teaches that the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching, the highest court in the denomination ruled Saturday.

You know, I went to a Methodist university. At the time, they were tolerant, but I guess things change. I don't guess I will be contributing to the alumni fund anytime soon.

sigh.

Intolerance and Ignorance is bred of fear.

As long as someone fears you, you have a level of power over them.

If nothing else, consider it that way.

(or, like me, roll your eyes, and pity the fools)

Wow.

I know a lot of Methodists who are not going to take this one lying down.

What provoked this, they felt like they had to bitchslap the Episcopals?

I have no idea. I was really pretty startled.

I am Methodist and this was in fact discussed in my Sunday school class yesterday morning. The actual position of the church is to welcome one and all to worship with us regardless of what they do or don't do. What the church is ruling against is a practicing preacher who is an avowed and practicing lesbian. The church feels that one in such a postion should follow more in line with the teachings of the church. As with many denominations and religions one that has attained certain positions is expected to adhere to a tighter morality code than is expected of the parishoners in general.
Does this make it right? I don't think so. I am glad to see that for nearly the first time in Methodist history something like this is being appealed. I have no idea where the appeals will go, and I doubt this will be accepted in the Methodist church in the near future, but...eventually, one day it will. As for now, I'll be thankful and glad that my church does not turn it's doors against my attendance. No one speaks to me about condoning my lifestyle. Then again, few know...although my pastor is aware. He has never tried to sway me that my choices in life are wrong and has always welcomed me.

FinestSilk: good to hear your Minister knows about your sexuality but doesn't try to sway you away from it :)
