Check it out, we might get some big pieces! Boom!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - August's annual Perseid meteor shower will light up the sky over the Northern Hemisphere Sunday and Monday night, the NASA space agency says.

Just before dawn is usually the best time to look for the often-showy display of streaking light, caused by the Earth passing through the tail of comet Swift-Tuttle, NASA said.

The tiny pieces of comet hit the atmosphere at a speed of 132,000 mph, causing bursts of light as they burn.

:D

cool maybe will camp out in the back garden if its warm sunday night :)

8 or 9 years ago, on a moonless August night, I hauled a bunch of my friends high into the mountains. We caught the Perseids when there were over 1,000 per hour. We gathered an hour or so before sunset, and we stood around outside discussing our viewing destination. In broad daylight, as we all stood in a circle, for an instant all of our shadows jumped 90 degrees, and then back again. In broad daylight, a meteor flashed through the atmosphere so brightly that it overpowered the sun!

For best viewing, get away from city lights. Several months ago, for the Leonids, I drove way up into the desert for the darkest skies. My brother saw only a few meteors because he stayed in town, but at the same time of night, I caught a spectacular show. Some were bright enough that I could have read a newspaper by them!

Meteor shower are great to watch.

If you live in the city and wish to view them try going a out of the city where there is no lights or not many, the show is much more spectacular. And the ones in August are the ones to watch too. If any of you are into acid (no longer take it myself) you may want to get ready for a great ride. This does not mean that folks that have never tried acid should go out and try it because it is not for everyone. I actually had a friend completely freak out on the stuff and he had to ride it out which will take many many hours...so be warned.

LOL..I HAve Taken TOO Many Hits! BAd BAd BAD!

Can't Remember Shit Syndrome:D

I'll Be Gliding Silently In A Dark Pool On Sunday Night. I'll Now Be Looking Fer The Grand Show!

I will be waiting in my hammock. No city lights to worry about out either.

They built a housing addition in my favorite star watching spot. I'm going to have to find a new one.

Might be coincidence...

Just stepped out for a smoke, and to cover up my Harley. Looked up for awhile, saw about six, some big ones..some quick and small. Might be some early entries, when I see a good one, I usually say, "Thankyou!" When I see alot, it gives me a warm feeling, knowing that I fit somehow into all of this. :D

*0040hrs, Left Coast Time.

Get the lawnchair, some beer, chips.....

Tonight is showtime!
How you going to watch? Blanket? Warm body? Adult Beverage? Smoke? Acid? Mushrooms?
Come on! This is a cheap, glorious, good time!

Cheers! :D

Unable To Get To The Pool!

No Floating!

I'm Gonna See If I Can Find The Space Station Though !

Hope I Can See Through The Core Lights ~Crosses Fingers~

Went out with my astromany club. It was a little cloudy but enjoyed it all the same. Alas no acid or mushrooms this year.

You'd be amazed at what one remembers. One of my best meteor shower shows was on cid. aaaaaa...nothing like camping on acid while star gazing with a wonderful man and a bottle of cold ice cold beer. That's the life. But to each his own. Such trips are no longer. Boo-hoo.

I got up at 4 am this morning to watch the showers. While there wasn't any acid or cold beers to be found ... It was an amazing sight. So quiet on my dock, not a hint of breeze. The water provided the most amazing reflection of the stars.

NExt Shower I Wanna Be With Morgy!
:D

Well shit, I forgot about it.

We had no electricity the first part of the night and at that time it was cloudy. But I was going to go back out and look before I went to bed and flat out forgot

MorgaineLaFay, funny you should mention viewing the shower on your dock. My very first viewing of a meteor shower was on a dock in Timmins, Ontario with close friends. And that is when my interest in astronomy was sparked .

*smile*

I was wishing I knew more about astronomy when I was out there this morning. I could see so much, and yet I didn't have the faintest idea what I was looking at.

You don't have to know much about astonomy to enjoy the vast beauty. As long as one takes the time to notice what's up above :)
