I'm working on a story I got the inspiration for from a discussion with a First Nations artist, and I mentioned an art therapy/adult colouring book by a Tasmanian author and custodian of First Nations images. I've given the details of the book I mentioned as an author's note at the end of the story. Is this the right thing to do, or is it better just to say "I bought them an art therapy book for their after-care". My friend really does get into art therapy books for after-care!

Looking forward to some good advice

OK, consider ‘fair use’. You could mention reading Shakespeare. You could write in a couple going to see a current movie (by name) on a date. Is there some reason this would be different? I mean, so long as the book isn’t being used sexually or heavily criticized, I see no reason to worry. From what you say, you’re being positive and recommending it, right?
