men and body image

actually, i don't agree at all.

i think men see attractiveness in far more women than women see in men.
they don't pick out stretch marks or broken nails, they notice nice curves.
they are quicker to see the assets than the flaws.

i was with the ex for over 6 years...and in all that time i don't think he even noticed i have stretch marks!
...but as a woman i saw his every flaw.

or am i wrong?

i think that we THINK men are evaluating us, when really they're admiring.

That's quite perceptive.

Stretch marks and broken nails being unattractive is something created entirely by women to put themselves above other women. Those shoes, who are you trying to appeal with them, men or women, bearing in mind men do not care that much about them?

I'm very self-conscious of the way I look.. mostly because I'm a munting cunt..

..but.. do I do it more than women? I don't know, everyone wonders whether they're "good enough" for someone else if they don't feel they are.. I think this is equal in both sexes.

I don't however use moisturiser and whatnot. Although i tweeze in-between my eyebrows, *waves hand camply*.

Additionally, LT is a sappy castrated poofter.

I think so too.

This is very true. :)

A man is lying there with a hard on waiting, and wanting his woman.
A woman is lying there worrying does my tummy look fat, are my tits off to the side.
We all have body issues, I don't know anyone who doesn't. And if they don't good for them.

LT, i would reply to your post...but i have you on iggy, because every post you make is mean.

bet you £20 that your post insulted somebody!
I'll bet £20 that your thread started with an insult.

THis post is quite misogynistic in appearance. Clarification? Or do you actually mean all women are "miserable two-faced cretins?"
I was referring specifically to the frick and frack team. You know, the thread starter, and her mini-me.

I never worry about my body at all.

If a woman doesn't like it for some reason I could care less.

Dolf,

I won't pretend to speak for "men" in general, but I CAN tell you how it is for me. I spent a good part of my life denying that looks are important, and pretending that I didn't care how I looked. Much of the time I was so successful at it that I didn't consciously realize that I was pretending. As a result, I didn't acknowledge the stress that maintaining the fiction was putting on me. Now that I have given up trying to believe that nonsense, I spend more time doing something about my appearance, but the overall result is considerably less stress.

does it help that these days it's more socially acceptable?

the male grooming products market is booming, there are ads showing men using moisturiser...you don't get labeled "poof" for looking in the mirror too long.

made a difference?

Question: do you actually notice men who groom themselves better? Do you care?

igor, i just noticed your weight chart...that's pretty impressive!
losing weight is hard work, i know, but it's well worth it in the end :)

i guess the fact that you advertise your success might say something apt to this thread?

ok...i like men who dress to suit them, but scruffy jeans can be far more sexy than a suit.
i don't like men or women who go ott with scents.
i HATE hair gel with a passion. if i'm with a guy i want to be able to touch him without getting stuck to him

no! as long as he doesn't look & smell like a tramp. i notice face & eyes before i notice clothes.

inspired by LT's whinging & whining in the women's thread...

in modern society are men just as stressed about their appearance as women are?

my sis' bf has fat days, uses her moisturiser and gets upset about zits. is this the reality, that men keep hidden?

do you hide your insecurities because once in a group men will mock these kinds of feelings?

do you feel intimidated by the better looking guys? see a beautiful woman, but not talk to her in case you don't measure up?

No, men are less stressed. There are many "metrosexuals", but generally, clean clothes, some gel and cologne and we're good to go.

Obviously we stress about the same things--no girl likes a man with zits--but, come on, this is obvious. We just put less money and work into looking good. Usually if we do put money into something it's clothes.

We hide our insecurities because men aren't supposed to be insecure about anything. Not about our weight, our video games skills, or our game.

Yeah, we get intimidated sometimes. Talking to any woman is difficult, but when you talk to a less attractive woman, you're less likely to be shot down and if you are, you don't feel as bad.

The guy may think differently! Gel just doesn't feel nice though, but then my hair is straight, I guess.

Perhaps we're entering an era where men dress for other men in much the same way I described women as doing.

Women are more likely to notice flaws but I think they are more likely to look past flaws.

maybe men are less likely to class them as flaws?
so, when they find what they class as a flaw it's a bigger deal?

I've been thinking about what you said, and I don't know how much my sig line has to do with bragging. Some, certainly, but it is not one of the main reasons for doing it, I don't think. As best I can tell, there are two chief reasons that I do it. One, is because having posted it, it makes it harder for me to backslide. I would be ashamed to have to take the ticker down before I reached my goal. Two is because it provides real life data to others about what can and is being done. I hoped that it would encourage others to post their real life data also.

If you can buy it at Walmart, it's ok for me.

I am an happy fat bald guy.
Love it or leave it.
