This is a surprisingly well done film. Remains cohesive even with the two primary twists/gimmicks.

The main character (Guy Pearce) has lost the ability to make new memories. The movie is shown chronologically in reverse.

Amidst these factors, Lenny(Guy) is searching for the man who raped and murdered his wife(played by one of my all time favs; Jorja Fox).

He has the assistance of a friend(another fav; Joe Pantaliona(spelled wrong)) and a woman(Carrie Moss).

The mystery is layed out piece by piece, even when I felt the colossal mind fuck brewing my attention was still wrapped up in the characters.

Highly Recommended!

I saw this film when it first came out after reading a review of it here:

www.crankycritic.com

Cranky cranks out a consistently straightforward review and he and I agree on almost every point. I thought Momento was a great film, but it did not last long in theaters here.

A friend of mine highly recommends this film as well.
He is so in love with the whole concept and simply loves it. I have yet to see it - just need to make some time so I can see this film ... :)

I really enjoyed this film.

Great concept. Good delivery.

As for how he remembered to tell people he had this condition? Duh, he wrote himself a note. Maybe the director should've put in a scene of him doing so in order to let the dimbulbs catch up with rest of us?

Okay, maybe he didn't write himself a note, but it's not like it would've been hard to do. :)

Regarding his memory of his condition.....

He had full recollection of events that happened before "the incident". Each morning he saw the tattoo on his hand: "remember Sam Whoever"(the name escapes me), this triggered his pre-incident memory of his insurance case about memory loss.

WARNING! giveaway ahead.........

When near the end of the film it shows him laying on the bathroom floor post incident...he sees his wife's eyes blinking and she is gasping. I believe there exists a time when his condition was developing, as his brain was bruising. He made some connections, such as "something is wrong with my head". Thats enough for me to understand his awareness of his condition.

The juxstaposition of the B&W and color scenes was an inspired idea. I dont know if the original short story(by the directors brother) used the device but it allows us(the viewer) to get inside the desperation of lenny as opposed to the detached exterior he portrays to others.

Pulp Fiction...I think any comparisions are foolish. Both manipulate time but that is about the only similarity. memento has basically 3 important characters, with PF having at least a dozen. PF was indeed a circular plot, interwoven. Memento is really a straight line, its just given to us in chunks.

The scene at the end where he essentially joins Natalie in the comnspiracy to begin another investigation into Jimmy G bridged the gap between lenny's world and most everyone else's search for purpose. (Ok, now I'm reading into it way too deep.)

*bump* to clean the board of the damn long titled thread so kindly bumped up by yayati troll-bot.

Oh Dude..

Definitely one of the best movies of the year.

It's a flick you should see way more than once.

Hi all,

A friend just bought 'memento' for me for me as a present, but I am yet to watch it..... reading all your reviews and comments though makes me want to watch it now. I will asap.

Thanks......

saw it a week ago

fab. the last 5mins just blows you away.

i found it clever that each scene lasted the length of your average short term memory (couple of mins)

guy pierce picking another good script after his great performance in pricilla........

I didn't care for this one much. A one-trick pony can't sustain my interest for longer than . . . oops, forgot what I was gonna say.

Memento was excellent. But as for best movie of the year, I preferred Requiem. Quills was also well done. The rest didn't impress me much.

havent seen requiem or quills ... that will give me something to do :)

i liked memento it was good ... and it made me feel smart because i guessed the end before it was all revealed :)

That was on one of the movie channels I get last night. I almost decided to watch it, but opted to watch Bugs Bunny cartoons on Cartoon Network (Hey, they had the one where Bugs can find gold all the time and Yosemite Sam keeps trying to con him into working together. Sam falls off of cliffs a few times. It was funny!).

But, having read the good comments about it, I'll have to make sure to roll tape on it the next time it comes around. :)

I LOVED "Quills". I wish I had seen it sooner. Memento..I dunno. Maybe it's because I had a headache to begin with when I sat down to watch it. I'll give it another shot. Requiem...haven't seen it yet.
