I've awakened early. The house is still. No one else is up yet. The first rays of dawn are lightening the windows. I am feeling somewhat melancholy today, for some reason. Early hours allow you to ponder the mysteries of life and sometimes we turn down dark lanes in our mind.

To chase away the dark shades, I like to think of life's good moments. Those instances when all seems right with the world.

Walking my dog in the early morning mists. Watching him dart to and fro as he follows a trail of delightful smells

Playing with young children. What time is it, Mr. Wolf? Hide-and-seek. Or spending a pleasant warm afternoon just pushing them on a swing. No words, no sounds other than the rhythmic creak of the rope.

Laying in a hammock with not a care in the world except trying to decide what shapes you can discern from the fluffy white clouds overhead.

Sitting in a boat on the lake with your pole in the water, a cold drink near at hand. Letting time and troubles drift away with the current.

Does anybody understand any of this? Have you had such moments of pure bliss? Forgive me if I ramble, it's just the moment, I suppose. This mood should pass.

*taking notes*

I'm afraid you are much better at banishing shades than I am. I tend to pace and replay everything in my mind. Eventually thought, I indulge myself with my favorite coffee or hot chocolate and a well loved book or movie.

umm, dear man, my name's not Melancholy... ;)

Sounds to me that you are just being an intelligent person in serious contemplation!

:D

Thanks, love, but I'm not sure it's working today. I can't seem to shake that black dog that is hounding me. He can be very persistent, at times.

Maybe it's a case of too much introspection? If you go looking long enough, you often find more than you bargain for.

Don't feed the dog, get your mind off of you for a bit. Distract yourself or simply tell your mind no.

:(

The damnable beast doesn't want to listen today.

I posted to the "Do you fear death" thread and he showed up.

Now he sits in a dark corner taunting me.

Get him away from you right now !!!!

I'm sorry! I come here for fun. Today, I'm not having fun. I'd better go before you catch it from me.

Later, guys. Hopefully.

Trying to send a ray of sunshine to you.

Even if a teensy bit finds you I hope it helps. :(

Smiles are in your PM box, waiting for you.

Flowers are here. :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:

I've found that I can't stare into the shadows too long...they'll swallow me up.
I just light a few sweet vanilla sugar candles and turn on some music and banish the shadows, one by one.

Turn your mind's eye to that hammock or that fishing hole...they are there in your mind...just call them up.

I hope you can banish this soon, Mensa.

It is the dark times that help us to appreciate the sunlight of early morning dawn.

Would there be day without night?

How would we know happiness without grief?

Mensa, I hope that you find your way out of the darkness.

Be well,

Miss T

He isn't taunting you, hun. He is admiring who you are as a person. I know because I had coffee with him last week and he said that he thought you were a great guy.

Melancholy, baby. Sounds like the title to a great poem.

We all have moments of shadow watching and feelings of the 'blues.' I say hug your dog and find a cat to stroke. :D Proven therapy. :p

When the 'blues' try to get me I chase them with butterflies, reading a good book, chatting with a wonderful friend, watching my kids learn new things, hugging my man, sipping a glass of fine wine over a lovely steak dinner. Contemplating my 'blues' can sometimes bring on some thoughtful poetry.

*hug* Mensa, you sweet thang you!

:D Come play in the light! :)

Well said Debbie

Mensa, I have no idea what is causing your sadness.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

*hugs*

Yes, I have. Turn on AMC and watch Mr. Hobb's Takes a Vacation (Jimmy Stewart) and you'll be laughing in no time. :)

mensa......

I have often felt the lure of melancholy madness.. Though you wouldn't want to wallow in it for too long, sometimes just allowing yourself to experience some of the sorrow, dissatisfaction, angst - whatever, you can emerge full.

I tend to become almost immersed in whatever I'm feeling, be it sadness, joy or anger. I've often wished I were more balanced, simplistic, one who merely strides through life seemingly unaffected.

I think repressing unpleasant feelings or trying to distract yourself from them is delusive....like the saying "the past is the present until it is resolved"!

So Mensa if you're still feeling this way....listen to some sad music, or watch a deep, touching movie and revel in it for awhile!
