Would anyone be interested in a Medieval Marvel rp?
I have this cool idea about Marvel characters in an alternate Earth medieval setting, where Avalon is the main continent and Atlantis is the biggest city, just off the mainland, controlled by the Atlantean Empire, but open to all -- all walks of life live in the Imperial City of Atlantis.
In the year 1014, Merlin awakens after a five hundred year magical slumber, cast upon him by the evil Lady Morgana. While he slept, she periodically extracted blood from his body, cutting him and then healing the wound directly after, only to cut it again the next time. Using his DNA, along with blood magic and a little alchemy, she began kidnapping injured soldiers from around the world and experimenting on them. Her most successful creation was Wolverine, who had once been an Atlantean Nobleman, but was now nothing more than a bloodthirsty monster.
Wolverine had followed Morgana's every order without remorse for over three centuries, the genetic tampering having given him immortality and metal bones and claws, as well as superior instincts and physical prowess. Morgana tried to replicate his immortality on herself, but she discovered that if she did, she too would lose control of herself and then both her and Wolverine would be unleashed on the world with no way to stop them -- she wanted to control the world, not destroy it. And she was the only person who could keep Wolverine under control.
For the time being, she had to settle for drinking a daily cocktail made from Merlin's blood -- it didn't keep her young -- on the other hand, she looked very old -- but it kept her alive. Still, she slaved away in her labs and sent Wolverine to kidnap new victims in her neverending search for eternal life.
In the late 900s, Charles Xavier was captured by Wolverine -- he had planned out this course of action with his good friend Eric Magnus, and a group of other mutants. They had escaped from Morgana's secret lab and planned to return to free the others. Xavier's powers had increased beyond what Morgana knew of him, so she had no idea he could now read the minds of a huge radius.
While in captivity, Xavier probed everyone's memories and then relayed all information learned to Magnus psychically. That night, they attacked the lab and freed her genetic mutant slaves, many of them only children, as she had started working on them younger and younger. This happened in the year 999.
With Morgana defeated and no longer there to control Wolverine, he went on a rampage, but after seeing a little girl look at him in horror, he fled to the northern mountains, where he spent several years with Kayla Silverfox. Wolverine, who was now going by Logan, had subconsciously blocked all memories of the monster he was and had been since Morgana turned him. When Kayla found him, he was naked and running through the forest, desperately trying to remember who he was and where.
For fifteen years, he has lived unaware of the monster he was. Xavier has kept a close eye on him, electing to leave him in peace so long as his monster stays hidden. Meanwhile, he teaches the young mutants how to control their powers at Xavier Manor, a huge mansion in a wide clearing in the forests of northern Avalon. In the lower levels of the Manor, Merlin is cared for, a team of experts trying to wake him from his slumber. Elsewhere, in Darkenholme Prison, Morgana rots away without her daily cocktail, looking more and more like a crippled old woman. But she still conspires to escape...
Our story starts when Merlin finally awakens -- Xavier and Magnus had been working for years on a device called Cerebro, a heavily enchanted helmet that allowed the wearer to perceive the various levels of energy in the universe. When Xavier wears it, his psychic abilities can follow strands of energy to locate people all over the planet, as well as spirits and entities. He thus used Cerebro to plunge deep into the core of Merlin's mind, using strands of energy as ropes to lift him up from his coma.
At some point after waking, Magnus confesses his fears to Merlin that other mutants have been hunted down and killed and that the same will happen to them. These fears are a result from the legendary Massacre of the Wolverine fifteen years ago. After that and word got out about magically mutated monsters (say that ten times fast), people became prejudiced. Merlin assures him to stay confident, but nonetheless, his fear continues to grow, and will lead him down a very dark path later on.
The first story arc will consist of the characters tracking down the four shards of the Frozen Flame, a crystal of great power Merlin hid away centuries ago. The crystal originally had four points, which was then broken into four individual pieces and separated. Merlin erected the North, South, East, and West Towers to protect the shards, and then buried the Towers underground. He was afraid Morgana would sieze control of the Frozen Flame, which prompted him to take such extreme measures.
Now he states that Morgana was poking around in his mind for the locations of the Towers, though he is not sure what she learned. To be on the safe side, he requests the characters gather the four shards and bring them back to the Manor to be watched over by himself.
After collecting the shards, our characters discover that Morgana had planted a piece of her mind in Merlin's, and it was her controlling his body all this time -- she had felt Xavier digging around and allowed her own mind to be pulled to the forefront, thus controlling both her body and Merlin's, which had finally gained its strength back. It also gave her a clear view into Merlin's past, thus revealing the Towers to her. She laughs and attacks everyone, then tells Magnus he was right to be scared. She says Magnus was right to be scared, that the outside world will never accept them, she just said that because Merlin would have. Her words haunt Magnus, and he begins down his dark path. He helps the Morgana-controlled Merlin escape, taking the Frozen Flame with them.
They break Morgana out of Darkenholme, and then she uses the Frozen Flame to absorb all of Merlin's knowledge and power, thus regaining her youth and becoming immortal. She then kills Merlin, and her and Magnus head to find Wolverine. Xavier had seen this to come in Morgana's mind (through Merlin's body), and already has our characters in route to get to Wolverine first.
Along the way, Magnus recruits other mutants who share his views, many of them second generation, children of some of the original escaped mutants. Whoever plays Wolverine can decide if he regresses to a monster or fights for good, or stays neutral. Regardless, they fight, and it turns into a huge story arc and multiple battles.
Eventually, Morgana is defeated and the Frozen Flame is used to strip her of her powers, but she retains her young body. However, after a few months of being hidden in the Manor, the Frozen Flame becomes self-aware -- a piece of Morgana's soul had been stripped into the crystal as well, and that part had grown and taken on it's own identity -- the Dark Pheonix. Jean Grey will become this villain, as the entity takes over her body and absorbs the Flame into herself.
Eventually, the Dark Pheonix is defeated and the Frozen Flame is separated from Jean Grey. They then take the Frozen Flame and throw it into a volcano and it is destroyed in the lava.
Other story arcs could include Apocalypse, and maybe the Sentinels, which could be bewitched suits of armor created by Stark or something.
My main chars:
Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, who are accomplished alchemists, and Gambit, who I'm going to have has a bo-weilding ninja.
My NPCs/Baddies:
Xavier, Magnus, Morgana, Merlin, Jean Grey, and whoever else is needed to advance the story.
Anyone interested?
