(09/30/12) NORWALK - People who suffer from certain chronic conditions will be able to apply for legal use of medical marijuana in Connecticut starting tomorrow.
The state's medical marijuana law kicks in Oct. 1. Applications for patients will be available online at the state Department of Consumer Protection's website.
Qualifying patients must be at least 18 years old and must live in the state. Patients must receive a doctor's certification, and only certain conditions are eligible for marijuana treatment. Some of the conditions include HIV, AIDS, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and certain types of cancer.
Many more details are still being hashed out. The Department of Consumer Protection has until July 1 of next year to determine how the drug will be dispensed. The program is expected to be up and running by late 2013.
