Well, here I am, after dislocating my shoulder, my left hand tightly bound to my torso. Must be punishment for liking to tie up my partners during sex.

They say I've got to stay like this for 2 weeks or more. Oh well, at least it got me a vacation and I can play on Lit more. ;)

Yikes! How did you dislocate your shoulder?

I fell while rollerblading...tried to grab hold of something to regain balance, but failed. If i hadn't done that, i probably would have been ok, but in doing so i bent my arm in an awkward angle and pop! out it went!

Man, does one handed typing suck!

Three letters for you: MRI!

I dislocated mine three years ago. Because the moronic doctor I saw didn't think I'd really dislocated it (since I put it back in myself before I went to the ER), I got sent to PT two days after doing it. Three years later, it still pops out whenever it wants to at the slightest provocation.

I had an MRI done on it about a year later, and that doctor told me that there's pretty much nothing in the anterior part of my shoulder that's holding the joint in place. It would require surgery to fix. Before I could have the surgery done, I lost my health insurance. So here I am. I'm sure going to PT when I needed to rest it certainly contributed to the injury, BUT if I had known the extent of the damage, I could've had it fixed long before my insurance ran out.

So, yeah, make sure you know the extent of the damage. I was one of those weird people who totally destroyed the soft tissue, but didn't harm any of the bones in any way. I think they say like 80% of people with complete dislocations have bone chips, but I didn't. Because nothing showed up on the x-rays, the doctor swore I was fine, even though I have a hole in my rotator cuff you could drive a truck through.

Anyway, sorry for that rant. I just know how painful it is and how much of a pain in the ass it is if it doesn't heal properly. I have had sprains, broken bones, and all kinds of injuries. (I ride horses!) But, I swear, all those things paled in comparison to that dislocated shoulder.

Be sure to rest it up well and take your pain meds. I hope yours gets back to 100% ASAP!

That does suck indeed (the injury and the one handed typing!). Bi Bunny is right too, if they haven't scheduled you for one, talk to your doctor about an MRI because the soft tissue damage won't show up on an x-ray and the longer it goes undetected the more likely you are to need surgery for it later.

Hope they gave you strong enough meds and that you're feeling all right despite the injury!
