Tirnanog College was far from the best school in Springfield, but it had standards. It had been an anchor for the local community over the last one hundred and twenty years. Most of the students were third or fourth generation, which gave the school that strong sense of family that had been missing from a number of other schools, Tyler Green had taught at.

Still ever school has it’s slackers and trouble makers, and Tirnanog was no different.

Standing at 5 ft 10 ½ in, Tyler towered over Luna. He brushed his long dark brown hair from his youthful face and handed her the assignment results from her last essay.

“I must say, I’m more than a little disappointed, Luna.” Tyler crossed the floor and took a seat behind the desk. He leaned back in his chair with his hands placed together regarding Luna with his piercing brown eyes.

“You started the year so promising, but in the last few weeks you’ve been distracted. Barely paying attention and let’s be honest, I’ve caught you sleeping more than once. Now you have one more essay due at the end of the week on Alice in Wonderland. If you don’t score well, I’m going to have to fail you.

"Now, if you are having problems at home you can talk to me about it. If you need help with any questions, please visit my office. But you must get this essay done, otherwise…” Tyler left the statement hanging.

Luna Wolf was the kind of girl who was beautiful, smart and in the background the fights her parents had every night was making it hard to almost breath, and here the boy she had a thing for was very disappointed with her, and she was afraid she didn't think this through. She sat there her eyes looking at the ground and finally she closed her eyes and a tear fell down her cheek. She looked down at the assignment that she had to do, something she didn't know how to start but knew the information very well. When she was at school she could forget everything from her home life, because no one knew that her father was a drunk and her mother was a door matt. Behind her smile was pain and deception and fear of losing everything she honestly loved. It's why she started to think about Tyler Green. He was a bit older then her but being eighteen it did not matter to her.

"I did this to get your attention" She said loud enough for him to hear, she didn't know if he was looking at her or stopped because she didn't have the courage to tell anyone about her life. It was silent in there for a moment and heard him move, sounding like he turned around but she didn't know if that was what he was doing or if it was in her head. She removed her jacket to show bruises on her arms and she finally opened up her eyes. "I think about you when I am at home, you give me some peace when my world around me is violent, cold and dark around me closes in." The way she looked showed honesty and a cold truth because she was letting him into her world because she needed him in more then one way.

"I did this to get your attention." She rolled up her sleeve revealing multiple bruises. "I think about you when I am at home, you give me some peace when my world around me is violent, cold and dark around me closes in."

Tyler knelt down beside her and placed a finger on her chin to lift her face. He’d worried that something like this may be plaguing his beautiful young student. He’d also suspected that she had a crush after seeing the way she stared at him with her hand on her cheek and that small smile of her lips while he taught.

But she was a student and he a teacher. This was dangerous ground for him.

“I’m flattered.” He smiled kindly. “But if I might offer you some advice. Don’t ever sabotage yourself to get the attention of a man. I’m always-“

“O.M.G. Aren’t you done yet?” Dazzle Hunt cried. The cheer leader, queen bee, rich bitch (emphasis on the bitch part) strode into the classroom. Her high heels clicking with each step.

Dazzle eyed Luna with contempt and her red lips were fixed into a disapproving sneer. “Some of us need to talk to the teacher, too, you know. Hi Mr. Green, you are looking fabulous by the way. Is that a new shirt?” Dazzle asked as she dragged a chair across the classroom and stopped it right next to Luna’s.”

Tyler sighed. “If you will give us one minute Ms. Hunt.” He turned to Luna. “Ms. Wolf, I want you to know my door is always open to you. If you like I can contact one of our counselors.”

“O.M.G. Do you have mental issues,” Dazzle asked Luna, her head tilted to one side and voice filled with sweet venom. “No real surprise when you dress like that.”

“Ms. Hunt, a little self-restraint, please,” Tyler snapped.

Suddenly Dazzle’s entire demeanor shifted and she was all sweetness and rainbows. “Of course, Mr Green.”

Tyler turned to Luna. “I want to continue this later. Maybe tomorrow. But I still need you to complete your assignment,” he said distractedly as he picked up his bag and started searching the contents to find Dazzle’s assignment results, which were worse than Luna’s.

As he did, Dazzle leaned in her chair and whispered to Luna threateningly. “Shoo, bitch.”

Jim Edwards leaned nonchalantly against school lockers.

He’d been pretending to look for a pen in his bag for the last twenty-six and a half minutes. But actually he was waiting for Luna. Today would be the day that he finally broke out of the friend zone. He’d been crushing on his bestie since they were twelve, but this was it. Today was the day when she saw him for the man he was.

As she stepped out of the classroom he noticed the sad look on her face. Immediately he rushed forward, and tripped over his own back pack and tumbled to the school hall’s floor. The hall erupted into laughter, jeers, and clapping.

Collecting himself, he raced to Luna’s side.

“Hi.”
