Need two people willing to have their characters killed off in the begining. But they can come back as new characters once the thread really gets going.

Need one to play the enemy, a single female clan mech pilot who kills two of my mercenary company, and cripples a thirds mech.

Need one to play the pilot of the mech that gets crippled.

I wish to play the mercenary's lance leader, who finally beats the clanswoman but takes her alive.

I know I am probably talking gibberish to people who have never heard of Mechwarrior, but just bear with me. with some good fellow writers, this could become a really good story. :)

Okay, she's yours.

I am by no means an expert on the Mechwarrior setting, but I know a little about it.

Here is a short history as I understand it.

Mechwarrior is set between the years 3000 and 3100, at the begining of this period mech technology, large, two story tall humanoid machines became a reality. They took the place of heavy armor on the fields of war, and as humanity expanded out to encompass several worlds around the inner sphere, these mechs became to be relied upon. A faction of people, scientists and the like, the heart of mech technology was convinced by a man named Kerensky to leave the inner sphere, taking their secrets with them, away from the war torn inner sphere, into self imposed exile.

The wars continued on until humanity slid back into a more medieval mindset, only we still posessed the remnents of mech technology, though we did not know how to design more, we could make and repair what was left behind by Kerensky and his people.

People in the inner sphere aligned themselves under a hand full of 'houses'

House Steiner
House Davion
House Lao
House Kurita

They were on the brink of destroying themselves with their constant infighting, driven by foolish pride.

Then the children of Kerensky began to return. They called themselves the Clans

They come back to take the reigns of power away from those they see as honorless children, us.

sounds like fun I'm in it will be a pleasure being your enemy yet ally.

I got dibs on the first to die!

Cats contributions:
Clans: The clans consider protecting the earth as a birth rite and seek to recapture there home world. They are by large communists and have a system for marriage, breeding, work, and life in general. The warrior class is a separate entity and are clones of people who stood out in some noble manner.

Weapons:(damage stats are for comparison and pulled from battle tech (Same world different game).)

PPC: particle projector cannon, mid range good damage mid size (has a minimum range)
Flamer: short range, 2 damage (anti personnel), very small
Machine gun: as above. (no heat build)
AC 2, AC 5, light auto cannons long range (2 is Superior) light damage ( 2,5) med size (has a minimum range)
AC 10: mid range, 10 damage, mid sized
AC 20: Short range, 20 damage (see a pattern?), BIG sized
Gauss Riffle: long range, 15 damage, large size (very heat efficient)
Small laser: small size, short range damage 3
Med Laser: mid to small size, mid range 5 damage
Large Laser: mid to large size, mid range 8 damage

Missiles: come in two types: SRM do two damage and are short ranged light weight, LRM do 1 damage and are long range mid to heavy weight. Each launcher is named for the number of missiles fired in a volley.
SRM 2,4,6
LRM 5, 10, 15, 20

Hatchets are also common but do damage based on mech size.

Clan weapons are in general better then the inersphere equivalent.

Depending on the time frame certain variants on the above weapons may appear. Pulse lasers fire longer beams for superior accuracy, ER or extended range lasers may also be available (clans only make ER lasers and the dreaded ER PPC.) Auto canons also have the untra variation which fire explosive rounds at a faster rate and LBx versions which fire shotgun like spreads for superior accuracy.

I'm In

I'll take the pilot of the crippled mech.

I've been playing Battletech/Mechwarrior since the early 1990's, so I can help out with history, weapons, etc., if Cats ever needs a break.

Questions: What type of unit are we? Light/Scout? Medium/Pursuit? Heavy/Fire Support? Anything in particular you're looking for in character details? Mechs available?

Let me know. I've been waiting for a good Mech thread to come up.

I would like to place the time frame a few years into the return of the clans. So facing them isn't a surprise, but they still hold quite a bit of mystery to us inner sphere mercs.

As to our lance of mercs, I figure we are a brand new company, operating with only two lights and two mediums. We will face two higher end medium clan mechs.

How does this sound for backgrounds?
My character has inherited these mechs, and got his two best friends, cats and one other, and his fathers old war buddy, Dan, to help him build a merc company.

Cats, Dan, Tymeless, do you three have any suggestions?

Also, Cats or Dan, could you give Tymeless a little more detail on clan mech pilots?

i am clueless about the game mechanics and its system but i'll gladly play along sounds like some fun.

Well I half expect people to make there own mech. So I figured I'd post the normal weapons to give you an idea of whats availible.

For oposition may I recamend the puma sense its weapons are as simple as can be, 2 er ppcs and a flame thrower. It may be a bit light however.

I am not to familar with mechs any more but oddly I have most of my battle tech stuff semi handy if need be, but I've alreay shared half my knowledge or more. Let me post the rest though.

Tonage Battlemechs are 25 to 100 tons, 25 to 40 are light mechs 40 to 55 med, 60 to 80 heavy and 85 to 100 assult.

Mechs can have jumpjets witch make the mech jump short distances the fuel is self refueling but only allows a few seconds of flight each jump.

The main trouble with mechs are heat and cost. Mechs regularly over heat do to weapons fire causing the mech to shut down or even self destruct, exploding ammo is also common, although C.A.S.E systems channel the explosion out of the mech a limb is quite likly to fall off.

A mech is very likly to fall over when hit by an ac 20 or ac 10 other weapons may do this aswell but its less common.

Clan pilots have an honor system and are resticted from fighting hand to hand in a mech, firing in the back, or shooting some one while there down, however this honor system is regularly ignored by clan pilots especialy if they arn't fighting a second clan.

Clan names: Smoke Jagur, Ghost bear, Wolf, Jade falcon.

And now all my knowledge is shared on possibly useful info.

I was thinking of using a catapult or a bushwaker, but those and the atlas are really the only IS mechs I think may be availible and remember.

If some one tosses out names and weights I'l pick one. I am still working on my two characters. (Dieing one and replacment.)

Lots of Useful Information

Clan Warriors are fanatical about their honor. Imagine the Samurai of ancient Japan in Battlemechs. They will strictly adhere to their code of conduct unless it is broken by another combatant, and then all bets are off.

Their honor code states that while they are in their mech, they may not engage in physical combat, fire at an unarmed or unwilling opponent, and may only engage one opponent at a time until that opponent has been either killed or rendered unable to continue combat (unconscious, shut down, fleeing from field of combat, etc.). They are also not allowed by their code to ambush an opponent. Their lives outside their mechs are just as strict, with frequent training and bickering amongst themselves on whose genes are purest. To settle disputes, they often resort to tests of strength or will.

True Clan Warriors are not born, but grown in laboratories from the DNA of the founding members of the clans. Their lower-class brothers are known as free-born, and were born using the more traditional physical methods. These warriors are often assigned second-rate mechs and duties that trueborn warriors would find beneath them, such as garrison duty and riot control.

Here is a brief list of light and medium Inner Sphere mechs that are available at the time the clans invaded.

Light:

Stinger (20T)
Wasp (20T)
Jenner (35T)
Spider (30T)
Panther (35T)
Raven (30T)
Firestarter (30T)

Medium:

Hatchetman (45T)
Phoenix Hawk (45T)
Hunchback (50T)
Shadow Hawk (55T)
Wolverine (55T)
Griffin (55T)
Scorpion (55T)

There’s a ton more, but it’s a start.

I’m going to go ahead and take a medium mech, simply because I’m the old war buddy and probably would have had something older and time-tested to survive. Hello, Griffin for me.

Light:

Stinger (20T)
Wasp (20T)
Jenner (35T)
Spider (30T)
Panther (35T)
Raven (30T)
Firestarter (30T)

Medium:

Hatchetman (45T)
Phoenix Hawk (45T)
Hunchback (50T)
Shadow Hawk (55T)
Wolverine (55T)
Griffin (55T)
Scorpion (55T)

Dear old dad probably had 3 Jenners and 3 Ravens for light, one phoenix hawk, one shadow hawk, and one hunchback. He told his war buddy where he kept a small cach of a catapult, a marauder and an atlas, we will start having taken a patrol mission to get the funds to jump to the planet where he hid his cach.

What ever mechs we don't take out in the field will be safe.

Mech List

Ravenloft:

I think there are like 200 some mechs availble to the Inner Sphere and somewhere on the order of 80 base models to the Clans. A full list is going to be tough to come up with.

Yeah, I know Dan, but all we will have access to is what my father left me. ;)

On top of the ones I mentioned that will be in the cach, there will be three or four that not even dads buddy knew about. (Custom mech designs... For those who wish to build one ;))

I may go custom, if I feel like dragging out the old book and relearning the rules.

I can't believe I forgot the hunchback and Raven mechs. So I'll take a raven, which if memory serves me right has advanced radar, ecm, and a probe for detecting shutdown mechs. In addition to that I believe a small laser, srm 6, and maybe two machine guns.

Name: Allen "Ensign" Freetruck
Age: 25
Hair: No
Eyes: blue
Bio: Allen and his sister both became freelance mech pilots shortly after the clans arrived in the inner sphere the two trained in logging mechs and tested well for control. Allen isn't the most accurate pilot but he is good with machines.

clan and house background

the clan invasion started around 3050
the area they invaded primarily was

House Kurita/Draconis Combine
This "nation" is based on a feudal and Japaneese type society
There is a hereditary ruler, and in many ways it is a high tech
version fo a samurai society

House Steiner/Lyran Commonwealth
Many German/Scandanavian traits

Rasalhague Republic
Cant remember the family name
In many ways a Democratic Viking society
but quickly wiped out as it was fairy small

The clans are a military society, winning on the battle field can overrule
just about any democratic decision
Jade Falcons
Wolves
Ghost Bears
Hells Horses
Stell Vipers
Smoke Jaguars
Nova Cat

Each clan has their own style and mech choices

the one pict, inner sphere, is after the war ending in 3060 or so
the three "wedges" at the top are the clan corridors where they invaded
The mechs in the second are called (left) Vulture and Madcat
the clans call them Maddog and Timber Wolf if i remember right

and a music video link with scenes from several of the games splice together

Yes well I'd like to point out one madcat is likely more then enough to take out four light or medium mechs, given that its a rookie group with little knowledge of the clans. Thats why I suggest the light but effictive puma. The damage is high, the range is good, but the armor is crap. So even a rookie can be lucky.

Well if either of you join we have a full/fuller cast.

So irish don't worry just know a mech is 2 to 4 stories tall weigh alot and the above listed weapons. Other then that your good. Oh and that technology was once beter then it is now. That may be usful.

Dark age

The inner sphere, where we are from, has been at war for most of the last 2 centuries. A lot of the industry has been destroyed, as well as the universities and the educated people who design and built it. In some areas it is better, but in some it is not much above our 21st century life. Think of it like the Roman Civilization, those near the center have all the benefits, those at the edge little.

looking at the map, Earth is at the center, and the capitals of the different houses are at their own center so to speak
the closer to the edge you get, the less commerce, industry, and technology you have access too.

At the height of the old Star League, almost everyone had access to the basic needs, including fusion power. Now areas may rely on old internal combustion for most things and may not have any high tech anything. Other areas still live in the life of luxury.

alright i'm in. I am willing to be on of the killed ones, i have a plan in mind relating to a jammed weapon destroying an arm and having to fight in melee and being killed that way.

Your planing how to die? I was just going to do it. Well any how I already called dibs on first to die.

Basic term: Lance 1-4 mechs, standard IS military unit.
