When I'm reading a story, I find it mildly annoying to see, "She was a babe--37C-25-36!" It seems like a cop out to me. I don't get a very interesting picture from that description, and resorting to mathematical measurements seems like lazy writing to me.

On the other hand I'm not so upset when I read about male proportions. Well, let me amend that. I don't mind, "His cock was an impressive 9 inches long." As long as they go on to describe it in more detail. (However, if the additional detail turns out to be a "four inches wide" phrase, I just want to puke. People confuse width with circumference, and a cock that was four inches wide would be as big around as a coffee mug.)

Maybe I don't like female measurements in a story because I'm a female. Or maybe I'm just being my typical picky, bitchy self and no one else ever thought about this and doesn't really care either way.

What do you think about authors including body measurements in stories?

Hey Whispersecret, I agree with what you are saying to a point. I hate it when the description is coming the perspective of someone who does not what the measurements are, like if a man were to take one glance at a woman and just know that she was 37-25-36 (as in your example). If it were the woman describing herself, it would be okay since I'm assuming she would know her body. The man could say she looked like a 37-25-36 and go on to describe her, but he's not going to know her measurements. If it's from the perspective of an outside narrator, I think it would be okay since the narrator basically knows everything. Personally though, I'd just prefer a good physical description.

I guess that we unimaginative males are guilty of needing to quantify everything, even something as sublime as the female form. I agree that it is unrealistic for even a regular lover to know the exact measurments of his ladylove.

Hey, Will and skibum, good points. You're right, I don't even know my OWN measurements off the top of my head, and it's MY body!
