Me and my Muse...

Muse (noun) : a. A guiding spirit. b. A source of inspiration.​

A lot of us talk about our muses, usually when they seem to have deserted us.
We all love to write, right? And we all write in such vastly different ways I figured it was safe to assume our individual muses would be fairly varied too.

Is yours music or images? Other people's writing? Is it a real life person?

If you'd care to share, please, tell us about you and your muse...

(Plus I thought if we talked about them in one place they might be easier to track down when they go AWOL on us! )

Mine is undefinable code, a constant and unreadable line of images in something like base 36.

And only occasional blips of what I want are readable.

Sometimes whole pictures stream from the mess. This is how I process what comes from my head.

Unquestionably, music. I listen to it constantly, everything from rap to bluegrass to rock to blues to jazz, all just depending on how I'm feeling, or how I'm trying to feel if I'm writing something. I've even gotten to the point that I have playlists for various RP's depending on the mood in them.

Hmmmm... My muse takes on different forms. Sometimes it is music, other times lyrics. Then there will be images, both still and moving. Words in a book, weblog or website. Other times she hides in the voices of friends, sneaking about in their words as we chat and talk. Rare occasions she will invade my dreams and thoughts, letting her efforts appear directly to me that way.

The rest of the time she hides and refuses to come out.

My muse is... well.. this could be a little odd...


1. Art. My bedroom has all kinds of anime posters up to inspire me and lend me ideas all the time. I know that sounds silly, but it's true! Different poses, expressions, artwork, mediums all give me ideas and help form and shape characters or even drawings that I do!

2. Music. I am a musician. Mostly classical. I tend to incorporate music in my writing as well. Certain songs express the mood I need to write in, all while complexing my mind to create songs from borrowed melodies.

3. My cat. I know..it's weird, but I often watch my cat and learn from him. How he behaves, the raw; primal, animistic side of animal. How his reactions are to me talking to him. Also, he's an excellent stress reliever! (So soft!)

4. My boyfriend and friends. I often study them as well, just like my cat. But I also ask advice too.


5. TV shows & Movies: An excellent combination of stories and ideas that form a bigger picture in my head. I'm a visual person. I breathe in imagery whenever possible.

What's my muse? I have absolutely no clue. I really don't know what or who's my muse. I just write because I want to write. Clearly if I lost it, I wouldn't know where to look. Its just a part of me. A collection of memories I would say which is probably why I never lose it.

Words. They play havoc on my imagination. I could be reading a fairly tame passage and suddenly something in the words triggers could trigger an intense reaction.

My muse lives in my head. I am a slave at heart. I follow my muse where she leads. Not blindly, but willingly. A muse is supposed to be a her. Why? Mine is a strong male who hasn't morphed into a figure yet.
