Or earlier. Just how stupid were the Republicans in Congress? They could have let Trump go in the impeachment process. Pence is malleable and would have passed as many judge candidates at them as Trump did. Everyone would have believed a rejection of Trump by the party he never was in tune with and that he churned up in the campaign process. Like the Democrats with Bernie Bros, the Republicans have been too concerned with keeping Trump's despicable sewer rat base. The recent election showed that these extremist "only with the party to back a single guy" elements hurt more than they help. A big percentage of the electorate is going to vote Republican on the down-ballot list simply because they vote for Republicans. And non-rapidly "one guy only" progressives are always going to vote Democrat.
