Biden Faces His First Big Choice on Debt Limit

After Republicans passed a bill that pairs spending cuts and fossil fuel support with raising the nation’s borrowing cap, the president must decide when and how to negotiate

WASHINGTON — This week’s vote by House Republicans to couple deep spending cuts with an agreement to raise the debt limit for one year has put President Biden on the defensive, forcing him to confront a series of potentially painful choices at a perilous economic moment.

It's getting to the point where the President can't be the President. The man cannot function or communicate. The Democrats want to run him from his basement again because he's too frail for the campaign trail. Biden's puppet masters don't want him exposed as a complete lunatic by having him sit down for any "negotiations." They want to dictate their terms to Congress and the Speaker absent Joe Biden's participation.

Only a fucking idiot would see this as a win for anyone.

What we had before was a budget from the President and nothing from the GOP. Now we have something from the GOP....i.e. McCarthy spent two months whining about shit and then finally did something.

Now the negotiations can begin on the budget after the debt ceiling is raised.

The responsibility is still on the Speaker to raise the ceiling and get to work on the budget talks.

Of course it’s a win. The president and his fellow Dems wanted a “clean” debt ceiling increase. Biden has thus far refused to negotiate. Now that a bill is on the table, negotiations will follow.

Negotiations are when both sides offer up something and then they work towards the middle. Biden gave his months ago. The GOP finally gave their response.

If wasting months of time and still threatening default is a win to you, I'd say you have perception issues.

The debt ceiling will be raised regardless of budget negotiations. That's on the GOP to get it done. Budget negotiations are separate

Where were these posts from you when Trump was incoherently babbling about "covfefe" and "hamberders" and claiming that stealth fighters were "actually invisible like Wonder Woman's jet?"

When he claimed Covid would go away in the spring when the weather warmed up?

A bill has been passed, the ball is in Biden’s court. Part of the bill includes an increase in the debt ceiling.

This thread is about the debt ceiling bill that Speaker McCarthy got passed this week. Congress has now passed debt ceiling bill that includes spending caps on discretionary domestic programs. The WH and Congressional Democrats will need to negotiate with the GOP on a final bill, but Biden’s notion of a “clean debt ceiling” bill is no longer realistic.

Exactly. "Ball's in your court Joey."

Just going to quote this for posterity. Biden has drawn a line in the sand, and McCarthy will now live or die on the hill of cutting veterans benefits so that multimillionaires may prosper at their expense.

It's not going to pass. Quote me on this. Or don't.

Biden will cross his line in the sand (ie “clean debt ceiling increase) and negotiate with Republicans on compromise legislation. There will not be any cuts to veteran benefits.

Not really. He gave them his budget and they gave him a doa bill.

The problem is that the President will move his asks ..the GOP won't. This is the beginning of the end for McCarthy.

That's nice. Now tell that to the simp I quoted. You won't because he's on your pathetic team of anti-veterans.

Read the Constitution, The House sets the budget, the President submits a "wish list."

How's that mind reading coming along?

It only took them how long to put up a budget....

Spin spin spin.

GOP incompetence SOP.

2033 the estimated debt will be 51.2 trillion, the interest will = the military budget. Both parties need to get their heads out of their asses and save our children’s future.
