just wondered if anyone here has been to mayo clinic in rochester. my wife has a rare auto-ammunine diease that the doctors at the university cannot slow the process down any actually they have told us there is nothing more they can do, but her doctor wants her to go to mayo , and we cant decide to go or not dont know what to expect any opnions would be appreciated!!

If there is nothing more her doctor can do, why wouldn't you go? I would contact the clinic and ask them what to expect. Get all the information you can. It's not an easy decision, but it sounds like, at this point, you've got nothing to lose by trying.

My mother-in-law was there a few years ago due to bunch of medical problems mostly realted to a defibrillator (sp?) she had implanted due to heart trouble. Her doctor kept telling her there was nothing wrong and she finally asked to go else where and they sent her to Mayo. They were finally able to figure out the problems but sadly her doctor had waited to long before sending her and she passed away. If her doctor wants to send her there by all means go...they are one of the best clinics in the world. They do a lot of research there as well so they are very knowledgeable on many of the most recent breakthrough in medicine. I hope things work out well for you.

Several times!

Don't hesitate!!!

Mayo is an incredible place! It is not just for orphan diseases or celebrities. They do not have an 800 number so just call for an appointment. Sounds like your Dr. will make available everything he has, get it to them ASAP!

Some people don't like the apparent regimentation at Mayo, but I found it very interesting. She will be scheduled for a battery of tests and given a folder with the procedures on cards. Each card has the location to go to, ie. 4 North for X-ray, 9 West for EKG etc. Each place you walk in you think "Oh my God, there are 50 people here ahead of me!". Twenty minutes later you are on your way to the next place, having just met some of the most caring, professional, friendly people you could hope to find!

At the end of the tests you will return to your primary Dr. and start getting answers, and the most up to date treatment protocols in the WORLD!

PM me any time for more, if you would like info about the clinic or Rochester.

I've been up there at least four times, maybe six.

Rhumb:D

I'm about an hour away.First class.Don't hesitate to go.More than likely, they'll have an answer for you.:rose:

I grew up in the town for 18 years and both parents actually work for the place, oh yeah been there a few times too.... So I could also try to answer questions you might have.
