The Miracle-style Mets might be coming back. After Liza Minelli sang "NY, NY" in the 7th inning stretch, Piazza hits a two-run homer and they beat the evil & boring Braves 3-2. Now they're 4 1/2 behind Atlanta, with 14 games more, five of them with the Braves. This team loves to make weird legend, which would be very welcome indeed in this battered city!

Bezboll bin berry berry

boring lately.

Always did like the Mets...especially when Bud Harrelson and Pete Rose decided to dance...

But I no likee the Yankees...just cause of Steinbrenner

Awww, you didn't like Buck Showalter and you don't like Joe Torre? Who gives afuck about Steinbrenner? It's the players and the manager that make the ream :)

Ahem- the team- Freudian slip - lol

Surprise

I always go for the underdog....

and sorry but the owner does have a big bearing on my perception of a team's "Q" factor...Marge Schott made the Reds seem like rubes.

Not a big fan of professional athletes anyway...always whining (it seems anyway) about needing more money or they won't play or they will hold out (football)...I say fuck'em let them work a real job for one week...they will come running back to the sport for whatever they could get.

I agree with you there- believe me, I do- but they look SO DAMN SEXY in their uniforms!!!!!

Would be intresting if their were a NY/NJ vs. NY World Series. Either way New York is a winner.

Ummm...I will have to take your word for it.

To me...there is nothing sexy about a man in uniform or out of uniform or any which way.

I am still trying to figure out why all women aren't lesbians.

Ya know, I htink most straight men still are, but I have to say- there is NOTHING like a man's package, semi-hard or hard, while in boxer briefs...
I'm thinking yummy thoughts right now just picturing it....

I detest Steinbrenner & the Yankees -

Now there's a pardon to appreciate (the one Steinbrenner needed for bribing Nixon). But the Yankees aren't so great this year, except for that beanballing madman, Clemens. It's hard to imagine the Mets actually winning, but the buzz is growing and the weird new schedule whereby we play 19 games with each of the other division teams has made it totally possible for a team that's 13 1/2 games out on August 17 to actually win the whole schmear by winning 90% of its games, as we have done thus far. Who knows what would follow if the Mets took the division, but I would love to meet the Mariners, whose first baseman, John Olerud, was absolutely one of the classiest Mets ever. We shall dream on....

Hmmmm....
I was happier talking about them in their uniforms :)

Nope- just baseball- I like the way their uniform hugs their butts.... Bernie Williams has an especially nice physique. Not like you guys care, though.

Oh really?

**goes back to eating fish and chips and staring idly into space**

:D

I think they're talking about American cricket.
You'd think they'd let the pitcher have a run up , before he pitched though.

I am turning into a mushy, sentimental wet noodle. I cried just watching the highlights of the game!

New Yorkers are fickle but they do pull together in a crisis. I love the way the Mets fans cheered Rudy. The guy can do no wrong at this point - but I am glad he didn't wear his Yankee cap and jacket to Shea!

And even the Braves played all their cards right- shaking hands before the game, cheering Liza etc. 4 games is not impossible for the Metsies! Heck, they went down to a one day playoff a couple of years ago (on the arm of Al Leiter) to steal the wild card slot! ;)

So yeah, you gotta believe! I don't think fans in any part of the country would be averse to another subway series. It would be quite the boost in patriotism. As long as they don't blow it and strike come November.

This Braves fan puts his money on the Mets. The Braves have a ton of talent but are a boring, unemotional, underachieving team. The Mets are riding an emotional wave right now which will carry them into the playoffs.

The Braves are white bread. The Mets ARE New York.

Damnit.

That's truly generous of you, Miles -

But Brian Jordan stepped up twice and has probably put it all out of reach. Fair enough. Benitez choked in the World Series, too. It was genuinely remarkable, but not quite enough, I fear. We'll see....

The Braves are in a slow decline. They don't have the deep pockets of the Yankees, and their success has killed them in the draft for the past 10 years or so. I think it's time to put Cox out to pasture.

But anything can happen if they make the playoffs. It's the deepest bullpen they've ever had.

The Mets have had their success. If not the Braves, I hope Philadelphia wins the division.

I can't believe I spelled Philadelphia right.
