"Marvelous" Marvin Hagler dead

Gottdamn. This one hits hard. Hagler was my dude. My friend in high school used to get all of the fights and I was usually the only one in his corner.

Rest easy, Marvelous.

BTW, you whooped Sugar Ray.

One of the very best of all time. I remember when he beat Allen Minter for the title and the crowd was anything but civilized. Rather than stay in the ring to enjoy his victory he had to leave the ring under protection from objects being thrown at him.

Hagler Hearns was everything we could have wanted. I was a big fan of Leonard and he technically won the fight but only because he ran, if he had gone toe to toe as Hearns did, Leonard would have lost. Hagler was unable to cut off the ring on Ray and I have to give Ray credit for that but scoring aside, I thought Marvin one that fight.

Goddamn that fucking sucks. Hearns vs. Hagler was one of the best fights in the history of pugilism. Sugar Ray Leonard was always my dude, but that's because he was flashy and I was a child in his heyday. As an older man with a more refined appreciation for the sweet science, I have grown to have nothing but respect for his game. Rest easy, Marv. Wish you were still amongst us.

Makes you wonder whether wealthy black american athletes contribute to the perpetuation of racism.

And yet ironically, it was a big deal that had whites panicky when a first black champ happened: Jack Johnson. Even worse for racist pricks, he married a white woman, I believe. Dude broke all of the rules.

I was always a Hearns guy. Hagler/Hearns is the greatest opening round of boxing ever. So sad knowing Hagler has passed. Great boxer. RIP

Yes, Jack Johnson was a problem, which is why Joe Louis was trained to be a non- threatening public figure.
