This is a new game idea for an alternate version of the Marvel Universe. In this reality, Mutants are not holders of evolutionary powers, but children of genetic engineering.

Prelude to a Crisis...

In the early 1960s, a young boy named Howard Stark amazed and intrigued the judges of several science fairs with his brilliant ideas and designs. Certified a genius, he was in college before he was old enough to drive. There, he shocked the professors as his intellect continued to grow.

By the age of 22, Howard had graduated with advanced degrees in science and engineering. A much older scientist named Justin Hammer took the young man under his wing, and together they formed Hammer Industries.

Through out the 1970s, Howard Stark made many breakthroughs in computer science and robotics engineering. However, in 1979, his new wife Maria said Justin Hammer had too much control over him, and Howard finally agreed. Thus, in 1982, only months before the birth of his son Anthony, and after years of planning, Howard created Stark Industries. Hammer was furious because most of his military funding went to Stark.

Howard made many more scientific breakthroughs, and steadily climbed the ladder to become one of the richest men in the world. His son, Tony, was showing signs of his father's intellect. He was a student at MIT before he even hit puberty, and studied most of the same fields his father had.

Origin of the Syndrome...

Shortly after forming his company, Howard Stark had hired Dr. Obadiah Stane to work on producing an effective method for genetically enhancing soldiers. Secretly, Stane shared his research with Justin Hammer, who created an isolated lab in Nevada to perform illegal experiments.

In the summer of 1996, there was a massive break out in the lab, and in an effort to prevent the Mutants from escaping, Justin Hammer ordered the lab to be self-destructed. Several of the Mutants managed to escape, but the rest were destroyed in the blast. In an unforeseen turn of events, the blast somehow carried traces of the mutated blood into the air, eventually spreading it across most of North America.

The government became aware of the blast, but any traces leading it to Justin Hammer had been destroyed in the explosion. Over the weeks to come, people closest to the blast began to develop abnormal abilities. By 1997, it was called the Mutant Syndrome, and the mysterious lab was being referred to as Point Zero.

About 64% of the people closest to the blast were mutated, but that percentage decreased farther from Point Zero. In some villages of South America, roughly 7% were mutated. The Syndrome managed to make it over to Europe and Asia, but only a few hundred cases were reported. It eventually effected Australia and Africa as well, but there were less than a dozen known cases in these areas.

Threat of the Unknown...

Many of the Mutants began using their powers to commit crimes, and some came together to form various gangs. Throughout the late 90s, the world was plagued by these "Mutant Gang Wars." Even though some Mutants tried to be heroes and stop the evil ones, the general populace came to believe that all Mutants would eventually turn evil.

To combat this threat, the US Government established S.H.I.E.L.D. - the Superhuman Hazard Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division. Once Tony Stark returned from MIT and started making advanced weapons, S.H.I.E.L.D. provided him with even more funding to outfit their agents. Secretly, Howard felt somehow responsible for the Syndrome, even though he had no clue Obadiah Stane was being paid by Justin Hammer to sabotage Stark Industries.

With Tony Stark's weapons, armor, and various warfare gadgets, Nick Fury led S.H.I.E.L.D. to slay the rogue Mutants. Between 2001 and 2007, hundreds of thousands of Mutants were brutally slaughtered. Some Mutants went into hiding, others fled the country, but some stood their ground and declared they were not villains, that they were good people. Sadly, Nick Fury suffered not a single Mutant he encountered to live, regardless of their claims.

In early 2007, Dr. Bruce Banner, who was working as an assistant to Dr. Stane, overheard him talking on the phone with Justin Hammer, and thus told Howard Stark. After trapping Stane in his office and injecting him with a truth serum, he told them all about Point Zero and the origin of the Syndrome. They also discovered that the newer versions of the Super Solider Serum, which were being kept secret, had also been sent to Hammer, who in turn had deliberately created more Mutants to unleash upon the world.

Howard Stark and Bruce Banner, knowing they had contributed to the Syndrome, felt intense bouts of guilt, but could not turn in Stane for fear of S.H.I.E.L.D. coming after them. So, instead, they trapped him in the basement of the Stark Complex. However, it was soon realized there were other moles, for some of Hammer's villains knew right where to strike to free Stane.

Later that week, well after midnight, Stark Manor was attacked by a gang of Mutants hired by Hammer. Howard and Maria were killed, and the house suffered major damage. Edwin Jarvis, their butler, managed to escape, and traveled in the shadows to Tony Stark's Malibu mansion to inform him of the events that had occurred.

The next day, Bruce informed Tony of all that had happened with the Syndrome, and they both became determined to try harder at vanquishing the Mutants. Tony became the new CEO of Stark Industries, at age 24.

Over the next year, Tony and Bruce worked long hours trying to create an Anti-Syndrome that would reverse mutation. Meanwhile, Hammer continued to create more Mutants, and despite the efforts of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Mutant Gang Wars continued.

Finally frustrated and desperate enough to stop the Mutant gangs, Bruce Banner created a super potent version of the serum, and injected himself with it. He started having seizures and then fell into a coma, where he would remain for several months.

After visiting Bruce in the hospital, Tony decided to take a similar route, but not by becoming a Mutant -- he wanted to become a super-armed Mutant hunter. Thus, over the next three months, he worked non-stop on building a power suit to combat the threat. After several inferior attempts, he finally created the Mark III, which was made of a gold titanium alloy. He had only his most trusted associates line his brain with cybernetic implants, thus letting him interface wirelessly with the suit's operating system.

It took Tony several days to adjust to the new frame of mind, but once he did, he piloted the suit and began secretly fighting the Mutants. Rather quickly, however, pictures of him in his suit were all over the media. They came to call him Iron Man, a name which he accepted. He had Stark Manor, which had been in ruins since his parents' deaths, remodeled as his new base of operations as Iron Man. Only those closest to him knew the truth at that time.

In March 2009, after nearly a year as Iron Man, Tony decided to reveal his identity to squash the rumors that Iron Man was a Mutant. He explained about the suit and his ongoing mission. Shortly after, he was contacted by S.H.I.E.L.D., who wanted him to make more suits for them. At first he agreed, and made a second suit for Jim Rhodes, who became War Machine. However, after a large aerial battle, Tony crash landed in a Montana forest.

Truth of the Mutants...

Tony was nursed back to health by the group of Mutants hiding in the forest, which convinced him that not all Mutants were evil, and after repairing his suit, planned to prove that to the world. He left, and managed to convince Rhodes and S.H.I.E.L.D. of his beliefs as well.

Although still slightly skeptical, Nick Fury organized the Avenger Initiative, giving Tony Stark the task of assembling a team of his so-called "Good Mutants" to help S.H.I.E.L.D. Since Stark Manor had many guest rooms, and was already well equipped as Iron Man's headquarters, Tony invited the people who had protected him and nursed him back to health to come live at the Manor.

They invited other Mutants who they knew were not evil to join the team, but many refused to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. Those who did join were granted rooms at the Manor, all of which were master suites with their own full bathrooms. They gathered in the Great Hall with Nick Fury, and began discussing the main focus of the team.

As The Story Unfolds...

As the game starts, it's October 31st, 2009. The Avengers have been working together for about three months, deployed on various missions and hunting expeditions. Halloween has always been a rough time for those hunting Mutants, as they tend to be extra dangerous on the spooky holiday. Tony Stark is sure there will be some kind of chaos, and has the Avengers ready to strike at a moment's notice.

Tony is proven right when a group of large robots calling themselves the Iron Mongers attack Washington DC. Worse still, upon arriving on the scene, Tony realizes the Iron Mongers have the same Arc Reactor in their chests, revealing the technology used to create them was somehow stolen from Stark...

And so, the story begins...

While Nick Fury is the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Tony Stark is the commander of the Avengers. Tony is classified as an official agent of the administration, and Fury often leaves the mission planning to him because he himself has the entire division to look after, not just the Avengers.

Stark Manor is a large house with three floors and a basement. It sits on a huge plot of land that is surrounded by a twelve foot high, one foot thick brick wall. The front gates open to a road that winds through a large patch of trees before turning into a huge courtyard. In the center is a fountain, and at the far end, the front doors to the Manor.

The road circles around the fountain, and veers of to both the right and left -- the left road leads to a large garage where many vehicles are parked, and the right leads to a small park with a mad-made lake.

The garage is attached to the house, connected at the massive entrance hall. From here, there are the two sets of stairs that mirror each other leading to the second floor, and three doors. The door to the left leads to the garage, the door to the right leads to another hall and then into the kitchen and pantry, and the large double doors, directly opposite the main front doors, right between the sets of stairs, leading to the Great Hall. This incredibly massive room used to be split into a den and a dining room. Tony had the walls knocked down and combined these two rooms into a large meeting room once he got the okay to start recruiting Avengers.

The Great Hall has a very long table that can seat at least forty, and there are three large LCD screens on the wall next to the table, as well as a computer station. This room is also connected to the kitchen, and doubles as a dining room, and has an elevator leading to the platform at the top of the front stairs and on to the third floor and basement. The kitchen pantry has stairs leading to the basement, too. There is another door leading from the Great Hall to a slightly smaller living room. In here, there are several couches and recliners, as well as a state of the art entertainment center with a 48 inch LCD, surround sound, CD changers, DVD changers, etc.

The living room has a door leading to the Game Room, which has all the latest and greatest in arcades, plus a few pinball machines and pool tables. It also has the same entertainment systems as the living room, as well as a few couches and chairs, but this TV has every video game system known to man connected to it. All the TVs in the Manor are connected to a special satellite television service created by Stark Industries as part of their Digital Entertainment line. Basically, they can watch any channel in the world. The entire house also has a secure wireless internet connection running at a maximum speed of 3.2 terabits per second, which allows them to stay connected with all their servers, vehicles and comlinks away from the Manor, and the computers at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters at Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs.

From the second floor landing, there is a door leading to a gym, which leads to a large balcony. Stairs lead down from the balcony to a huge pool and three hot tubs. In the back yard beyond the pool, there is an obstacle course resembling that of a military boot camp.

The Great Hall has a wall of windows looking out over the pool and backyard, as well as sliding glass doors leading out to a patio. There are chairs, picnic tables, and two grills out there.

There are two halls branching off the second floor landing, both leading to some of the suites. The rest are on the third floor, along with Tony's (when he's not at his Malibu mansion), Edwin Jarvis' (who acts as butler to the team members and works closely with the maids and kitchen staff), and Pepper Potts' (who manages the finances of the team and is their secretary). Pepper and Jarvis technically run the house, making sure the various staff members do their jobs and that the Manor remains in top running condition, along with all its gadgets.

The basement is full of various labs and workshops, along with the Danger Room, a holographic training chamber designed to meet the training needs of various members, depending on their powers (be creative). The elevator from the Great Hall leads to a huge chamber in the basement -- the Operations Room. Along the far wall are six LCD monitors, with a huge 50 inch one above them. They are connected to several workstations lined up in front of them, which in turn are connected to a series of servers along the other wall. These are used to store information, communications, etc.

One of the labs in the basement is that of Tony Stark. One half of the lab has all his computers and equipment, and the other has a large rectangular chamber, kind of like an elevator. He steps inside this and within seconds, his Iron Man suit is assembled onto his body by a dozen robot arms. The various suit parts are stored within the walls of the chamber, and he wears a bodysuit underneath the armor. The Arc Reactor in the chest of the armor runs at 12 gigajoules per second, which equates to 12 Gigawatts, or sixteen million horsepower.

From the Operations Room, there is a long hallway that leads out to an underground hangar. Here, they store their jets and whatnot. A hatch opens up, leading to the surface behind the obstacle course, where the jets can hover straight up, then fly off, kind of like a helicopter.

All through out the yard, there are various security precautions, such as cameras, hidden laser guns, other hidden weapons and traps, etc. If all these defenses are breached, there is a Total Lockdown procedure that covers the Manor in the same gold-titanium alloy used for Iron Man’s armor. The computers are programmed to recognize the team members when they leave or arrive at the Manor so that the defenses don’t trigger when they come and go.

I will be playing Iron Man, Hulk, Doctor Doom, and Sunfire (my own creation) as my primary chars, with Justin Hammer, Obadiah Stane, Jarvis, Iceman, Pyro, and Gambit as secondary chars.

I’m not gonna post profiles, but rather, insert a short bio with the first post of each char. Feel free to do the same yourselves, but still claim what chars you want here in the OOC. I’ll let someone else decide who runs the group of Mutants who saved Tony and what their name is.

Oh, I guess I should add that there are closets and bathrooms spread through out Stark Manor, as well as a large laundry room in the basement, lol.

This sounds like fun, say could I be a mutant with the ability to transform his body to extreme lengths but can not take a human body without making a part of it not human. I was thinking of a character kind of like Mystique but he's able to transform his body as his imagination lets him, as long as its biological, thus he can shift into anything, except for a pure human, as if he tried his body twists into a horrid shapeless sludge, very painful to harden himself from it.

Hmm, I'm thinking of using vision...with a twist, if thats ok....i may post a bio later.

Sure to both yall. Hey Nite, I thought for sure you'd wanna play Beast too, hence the reason I didn't touch him, hehe. But if you're not intertested, I may use him as an NPC, the guy who stays in the Operations Room while they are on missions and relays info. Then, when needed, he can be back up, lol. Lemme know.

Damnit, you know me all to well Jeff....I'll deffo play beast! I was....ummm....very very tired when I posted my previous post....lol....If you want, i'll still play him as the ops specialist, It would be a nice and welcome challenge.

Your call, Nite. Beast is your's to do with what you will, as long as it's not gay :p.

Iäve made a sheet if you guys want to use it, plus I've finished my character.

Name: Daniel Williams
Alias: The Shifter
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Former Profession: College Student/Mechanic/Musician
Homeland: England
Powers: Shapshifting, this ability allows him to transform his body to extreme lengths but can not take a human body without making at least 50 percent of it not human. He's able to transform his body as his imagination lets him, as long as its biological, thus he can shift into anything, except for a pure human, as if he tried his body twists into a horrid shapeless sludge like slime, very painful to harden himself from it. Except for that is there no real limits to his transformations.
Transmutation, This allows Daniel to transform anything he has physical contact with, but he cannot transform something alive into something dead, nor can he transform something dead into soemthing alive, so he cannot transform a bird into a rock, nro a rock into a bird but he can transform shopped wood into rock as the material is now dead and not growing, he can transform a bird into a dog, but he cannot transform them int oanything big without adding mass to the transformation by gathering either dead or living matter to supply for the mass he needs to transmutate the object into something bigger.
Appearance:
Civilian: He transforms hismelf into either animals, humanoid like creatures, turn his body into a ectoplasmic being, a ghost, and other things to hide himself, but mostly he turns into a human like being with completely different organs and biological structure, his most used appearance is the image link below. It's a body mixed with human DNA and ectoplasmic bio structures.

Costume: This image link shows the the appearance he takes as his neutral appearance when acting as a hero.
http://fc49.deviantart.com/fs27/f/2008/068/3/2/Mummygrade_by_Akamu1228.jpg
Personality: Daniel is a good hearted young man, he loves to read, to sing, to play music, to design things from clothes to mechanics and has a deep interest for poetry. He's a very intelligent and cunning person with high imagination and a sense of justice, while his life as a mutant was harsh before he became part of the Avenge Initiative is he still willing to do what he can to defend people from danger.
Background: Daniel was an intelligent chidl even before his mutation, he was raised by both his parents, treated well and never asked for anythign without good reasons. When his mutations showed up he was in the last year of college at the age of 19 and was kicked out by the school and handed to the authorities. He didn't put up any fight, just agreed to come with them and didn't as much as raise a hand agaisnt them, though he was in the form a wolf man, he had been thinking about werewolves when he transformed.
He remained within the UK for the next couple of years, reading on many different things, using his new abilities to at least have somethign to do, while they checked on him to find out a cure for the mutation running through the world, but his new body just produced anti bodies for the injections and nothing they did as much as tickled him, except for the shock treatments, those were rather stinging.
Then at the current date he was approached by a man from the US and offered a place in a special area for mutants like himself where they could be allowed to live their lives and train their abilities. He agreed and was swiftly taken to the Avenge Initative, looking forward to be able to see the sunlight after five years of isolation in the UK.

Name: Hank McCoy
Alias: None as of yet.
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Former Profession: None
Homeland: America
Powers: Hank McCoy retains the basic features of a normal human alongside a generally simian physiology (e.g., elongated limbs and enlarged extremities) equivalent to that of a Great Ape. This mutation gives him superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, agility, flexibility, dexterity, coordination, balance, and endurance. He is equally dextrous in all four limbs; able to perform tasks with his feet or hands with equal ease. Because of his talents and training, Beast can outperform any Olympic-level athlete, contorting his body and performing aerial feats gracefully. He is also a Genius, having perfect recall and a photographic memory, to the point that he can recall anything he has learnt in seconds.
Appearance:
-CivilianNormal human with a simian physiology. No Blue Fur (Yet - that could be a plot idea...he gets kidnapped and given his enchancements and blue fur...), short black hair and a goatee, glasses.
-Costume None. He usually remains within the ops room.
Personality: Quiet and unsure, Hank tries to get people to like him, sometimes a little bit too hard. He is gentle and is a pacifist, yet he is always fun loving and happy, though he can become deadly serious when the situation arises.
Background: When his powers became apparent, Hank had no choice but to go into hiding. Already a genius, he managed to survive for years in hiding, until Tony Stark approached him with the offer to help. Hank agreed, and became the Avengers Operations Manager, remaining at the mansion in the ops room, where he co-ordinates efforts as well as giving advice and warnings, as well as relaying all the info. He is also one of the few people who helps Stark work on upgrading the Iron Man suit.

Hope its ok, I thought i'd give him a try furless to see what its like, and it also gives you a potential storyline where he gets kidnapped and 'improved'.

Awesome bio, Nite. Hmm... That gives me an idea.... Just an idea, but... Hank gets kidnapped, improved, and during his escape, releases other Mutant captives... But one of them should NOT have been set free... An angry Mutant with metal covering his bones and claws within his arms...

I like.

Oooo Mutants! This sounds most Intriguing and I have a few characters filed away ...somewhere... I'm just itching to play.

Hmmm... Any ideas to get more women?

A chocolate covered Remy!
...anyway this is an old X-men character I've tried to adapt to your plot line, I can tweak if need be

Name: Emma St. James
Alias: Osseous
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Former Profession:
Homeland: England
Powers: Emma is a mutant with the ability to enhance the growth of her skeletal structure. Initially this was uncontrollable, but through much personal training, she is now able to control this. She can utilize this power in many ways, including the creation of knuckle guards, spears, and projectile spikes. She also possesses a slight healing factor since every time a bone is ripped out a wound remains which must close itself soon after, or else she would bleed to death (duh). This however, does not allow her to heal other injuries say a scraped knee or knife wound. She also possessed two hearts to compensate for her random bone growth, if one were to be ripped out she would still be able to survive, though it would weaken her in that bone production would be slowed.

Her bones seem to be much more durable than those of a normal human (or most mutants). They grow in millions of thin yet terribly dense strands that wide around one another to form the structure. Much like the way suspension bridge cables are designed. This enables her to easily survive most heavy hits in multiple areas of her body. She has tested the limits of her abilities jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge in an escape attempt (something that would have resulted in death or at least crippling injuries) without any major damage, allowing her to limp away from the scene.

An often-overlooked part of her mutation is her pain tolerance is much higher than other peoples. Not that she doesn’t feel pain, she does, she is just better equipped to ignore it since she can grow spikes of bone through her skin. I guess you could say over the years she’s developed a thick skin.

Weaknesses: While she is able to heal her wounds caused by using her powers she is not able to heal wounds inflicted on her.

While her bones are very resilient they can be broken (good luck trying, though). She’s also susceptible to illness, toxins and, anything that would cause harm to a normal person.

Appearance:
-Civilian Miss. St. James is without a doubt a very attractive woman. Her hair is a dark chocolate brown styled in long layers that frame her face. Her eyes are very expressive green surrounded by full dark lashes. Her nose is slightly narrow and gives for a longer appearance. A full set of sensuous lips finish the face.

Her pettish frame of 5’3 is wrapped most deliciously in feminine curves, this well-proportioned hourglass figure is kept in top shape through rigorous exercise and training so that when she packs a punch there’s some muscle behind it.

-Costume Her costume is quite simple and practical considering her mutation. Black leather pants and cropped top with calf boots worn over the pants. In a pinch she can design a makeshift suite of bone.

Personality: Emma is a pretty laid back person. As long as you don’t mess with her she won’t mess with you and even still she’d be more likely to give you one of her 'Oh please' looks or simply ignore you. She's not the type to go looking for a fight but once she's found herself in one she ain't gonna run from it.

A very warm effervescent and congenial young lady with a great sense of humor. She loves to laugh and have fun and is down to earth. She's a firm believer in loyalty, discipline, teamwork and, a job well done.

Background: Born to parents of British nobility she lead a happy life spent mostly in the English countryside. Everything was going all well and good till she began feeling ill one day after returning home from a visit to America. Not sure what it was her parents rushed her to the hospital. Once their the doctors ran a plethora of tests not understanding what was wrong until they took a closer look at her X-rays determining that somehow the girl had an enlarged heart. But it wasn’t an imposing medical crisis and they simply told her to hold back from strenuous cardiovascular activities.

It wasn’t till some years after this strange finding that the truth was revealed. It was a normal day her and her brothers having discovered some ancient ruins, curious Emma began to do some exploring. It was while walking around that Emma slipped on a moss slicked stone sending her down the steep rocky cliff for her body to burst on the jagged rocks below. Luck was on her side though for as she was grabbing for something to hold onto to keep from meeting her bloody end two boney spikes ruptured the skin of her forearms allowing her to use them as a mountain climber’s pick and stop her rapid descent, and work her way back up. When her parents found out about her mutation they sent her away fearing what people might do to her. Her father having gained some intel on a small group of mutants
