Some North Indians also mary their cousins and recently there was an article in Time or Newsweek looking at such marriages in US. Some the families discussed had very bright and normal offspings. I guess genetic mutation sets in after couple of generations of in breeding or maybe sooner?
On the other hand a very good freind of mine is in a quandary or living hell as he has been in love with his cousin all his life. He left the country but both of them can't seem to get over it. A great guy but has doome his and the cousins life forever. Looking at him I wish these guys could do something and get out of the living hell. Latter is a unique case and in matters of heart its not easy to dela with but forcing kids to marry cousins is different matter altogether. I have seen such cases among Muslim families in UK a lot and has to with family's social status and education.
Educated muslim families don't do such marriages but then again there are lot of external factors that lead to such situations. One should not be too judgemental and critical off such things and
jump to conclusions.
I have seen poor adivasis tribals in India who go thru this a sthey are poor etc
