... I have this GREAT idea for a story, but I don't have the time to do the research needed to properly pull it off.

The idea is this: Marquis DeSade traveling through Dante's Inferno, showing up every demon he meets along the way, and eventually having a battle of wits and wickedness with the big D himself.

If ANYBODY thinks they have what it takes to do such a story - please, help yourself to this idea.

On a slightly similar theme...

I have been working on a story. It's not the "head" Sadist, Himself, but it is about the life of Elizabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess. I've read many biographies and fictional stories loosely about Her, and She fasinates me! I don't know much about the "Father" of Sadomasochism, so saddly I would not be a good choice in this story. I love the idea, though! :)

Quite an interesting idea. Being human, the Marquis would probably make any fiend sick. I'm afraid that I don't know much about him. I don't even know the title of the book that made him infamous. But clearly it would (if available) be required reading for any writer who feels like taking up the challlenge.

I could read it, but I'm afraid I couldn't write it.

Well... I have the mind for it...

It takes a pretty sick mind to think up some of the things that man has done... But then again - I don't have the time to devote to studying his life and work to get his character "right"... If no one is up for the challenge, then I guess it will just have to be an idea I have on the back burner...

I am not up for doing the story, but if anyone wants to, I can help with some basic tidbits about DeSade, though I do not know anything about Dante's Inferno so I am no help there. DeSade was a sick SOB, as most know, but contorary to popular belief, he did not practice MOST of what he preached. His incarceration was mostly due to political reasons and the fact that he wrote pornography.

Some basic facts to start you off:
1. The book that caused most of the trouble was called "Justine" which is a story of a young innocent girl who is horribly mistreated and held prisoner by a group of sadistic and perverted monks who force a group of female prisoners they keep to do some pretty atrocious stuff (the monks fart in the girl's mouth, etc...)

Justine's sister, Juliette was the opposite of Justine and was a vulgar prostitute, but she married well and had a good life. DeSade was basically preaching that being pious and viruous gets you nowhere. The story of the sister, Juliette was made into the sequel to Justine, called "Juliette." This book was banned also but of course it was bought like wildfire on the black market.

Another book that stirred shit was "Philosophies In The Budoir" which was essentially DeSade preaching his beliefs to people by way of story and essay.

2. DeSade was actually a high ranking official in the military and had a very decorated title. He was a nobleman of high standing, though his "indescressions" often forced his family to bail him out of bad situations. He particularly liked prostitutes, though most of the working girls he visited ended up accusing him of doing odd things to them, including sadistic tortures and acts involving water sports and any nasty body fluid.

3. His wife (forgive me as I have forgotten the woman's name) was very loyal to him and stayed with him through everything. Though France did not look well on divorce and considered it a scandal, getting a divorce would not have ruined her as her parents petitioned the court for a divorce for her and they granted it, but she refused to leave DeSade. She enabled his dark fantasies and went so far as to bring him prostitutes and commission twisted art for him to look at (an old fashioned form of getting highbrau porn :) Theirs was by all accounts a love/hate relationship.

4. Crimes. I do not remember all of them, but I know that DeSade was only CONVICTED of distributing pornography and disobeying the King. He was tried for sexual crimes but never convicted of them. Girls claimed DeSade had inserted foreign objects (a fruit, a wine bottle and the leg of a chair to name a few), tied them up and burned them with a hot poker (though none of his accusers displayed any burn marks), and perhaps most disturbingly, an elderly woman accused him of locking her in a cellar, torturing and molesting her for days and starving her till she nearly died. Still, she had no evidence of this and the servants in DeSade's house swore they had never seen the woman. So, it is really a mystery as to weather or not DeSade was as big a perv as he let on. People who were close to him claimed he got off on shocking people. Anyway, his jail time was served for charges of writing porn.

5. I would reccomend watching the film "Quills" with Geoffry Rush and Kate Winslet, but keep in mind that the film is PURELY FICTIONAL. DeSade was never in an asylum, nor did anything else in the film actually happen. It does set a mood though. You may want to read Justine, though keep in mind it is hard on a weak stomach.

Hope I helped.

BTW...

Someone has already approched me about using this idea... It's pretty much her story now and I await to see what she comes up with.

I may be alone in saying this

The result(s) are eagerly anticipated.

After having read this post some five days ago, I did a little internet hunting. While not as brief as Sateema's post, it was fairly thorough. While I could never write such a story (I'm not that imaginative), reading one would be ... well, intriuging. :)

I am looking forward to reading it as well. Please let me know when it is available to read. :)

Patience, please. :)

I have taken on the writing of the story. It's *very* slow going for me....much more so than my others. However, I feel that it is shaping up into one of my better efforts! ;)

If all goes well, I hope to have it done by the end of the week.

Take your time... no need to rush it! :) I just wanted you to know you have a fanclub in waiting... ;)

That's all well and true, but why no feedback e-mail address?

Excellent!

Well, almost excellent. If I could, I'd give it a 4 and 3/4, but I can't, so I gave it a 5.

Very well written, with excellent pace and word usage. Great job depicting Satan's personality too, I might add. The dialouge between De Sade and Satan were short, but since they were concise, it proved okay.

My only problem was the description of Satan's member. Leaving it at '...a size of which the rational mind could not grasp,' would be better in my opinion. No need to perscribe limits to it with numerical values. Hence the .25 point deduction.

Again, very well overall! Congrats.

Thanks, flawed ethics! :)

No feedback email address?? There should be one there. I'll check it. There's always PM's, too.
