Dan Cameron
Age 34
Height: 6'-1"
Investment Banker
Dark Black Hair, with piercing dark pupils
Played high school basketball and football and was a good athlete but not a standout. He was not the most popular guy but ran around with the in-crowd because of his sports activities.
Muscular (keeps in shape by running and lifting weights)
Dan sat in the comfort of the train taking him to the meeting place where he and his friends would embark on their annual camping trip with old high school friends. He looked out the window at the landscape of large pine trees dotting the countryside and thought about the group of friends that he was about to join.
They had started out after high school graduation on a lark to explore the mountains before they all headed off to college. The group of 25 friends, a mixture of girls and boys, had such a great time in the wilderness that first year that they decided to make it a yearly adventure.
Dan had missed a few years due to summer internships during college but he made the trek every year he was free. This year he had talked to Brad, John, and Vince about making the trip and he thought they were all going together until a week before the trip. One by one they either called or texted stating their apologies at not being able to go on the camping trip. In fact Dan almost cancelled out at the last moment, not wanting to go without his close friends.
The four of them had shared tents together and now Dan, looking out at the scenery, wondered who would share a two man tent with him. He was hoping Albert would not be his tent buddy as he was an obnoxious and condescending type of person. He was that way in high school and every year he seemed alienate one or two of the girls in the campsite.
As the train rounded a bend and headed into a tunnel, he thought of some of the girls who had made the trip in the past. Some of them married and had children and no longer came on the trip while some of them brought their husbands along. In the past the girls and guys did not share a tent but that did not stop some of them from going off on their own. And from what Dan could remember, they always came back smiling and trying to act as if nothing had happened. But invariably the gossip spread and there was a lot of good nature teasing.
Dan was grateful when the train finally arrived at the small town that was the group's meeting place. Some of the group would always arrive a day or more earlier and stay in the small bed and breakfast until the entire group arrived. Dan had done this in years past, taking the time to explore the small mountain town. This year however due to the banking crisis, he put off going early, opting to arrive on the day they would rent jeeps to take them to their base camp. They would leave the jeeps and hike into the mountains, exploring and just enjoying the clean mountain air before having to go back to the city and its polluted air.
Dan pulled his backpack from the luggage cart and head toward the rental office. As he walked down the street, he was surprised not to see some of his old friends. Over the years the group size had dwindled and last year he heard there were only 6 people who showed up. "Sometimes life gets in the way," he mused seeing the rental office up the street.
He saw a young woman standing on the rickety wooden porch with a large backpack at her feet. He couldn't make out who it was but thought to himself it odd that more of their friends were not milling about outside the office. "Maybe the rest of the group is having lunch in the diner down the street," he wondered as he approached the lone woman, evidently waiting for someone.
