Markup in stories?

I see some bold and italic text used in stories but nowhere can I find info on how to actually use that. What am I missing?

Put a comment in the "Notes" section of your submission with your request as to what you want in bold or italics and the mods will generally take care of it for you.

Really? Is it that hard then? I can do that myself. Aren't there any simple rules to mark bits of text as bold or italics?

You can post the story into the text box with HTML tags: <i></i> <b></b> and so on. Not all tags are supported... just the basics.

You can also upload an MS Word or RTF file with bold and italics.

Has nobody noticed that there's literally a straightforward FAQ about it? This should be all you need.

I've never heard of telling the moderators what to format, that seems like a great way to annoy the heck out of them with simple stuff you should be doing yourself.

(Also, be aware that there's currently a rendering bug with centered text and break lines (<hr>) that makes them vanish sometimes, so format accordingly.)

The FAQ is out of date and not exhaustive. @Laurel and @Manu contributed to and approved my essay on the subject, and Laurel gave it an Editor’s Choice award. It’s pretty much semi-official.

I can’t see anyone asking the moderator anything here.

The current bug with centered text - it’s not just dividers, short headings are also impacted - has been reported multiple times. There are also many threads about it. It will no doubt get resolved at some point.

I’m not formatting my stories any differently to deal with a transitory bug. But I am adding a note saying to refresh after moving to page 2 and subsequent pages, which makes the missing text reappear.
