And it might be another MamaJamma!!!

Not looking good for PR and other places recently hit.

Can we please pin it down and have it stay in the Atlantic Ocean?

"They" don't make a tropical storms, they just name them.

'They' call the wind Mariah.

I've heard that a few times.

And everyone knows the HAARP transmitters cause hurricanes.

Damn those liberal scientists.

Some friends in Florida named their daughter Mariah. That's a pretty name. You put too many letters in AARP!:)
Those people are too old to transmit anything.

Hurricane Maria Advisory Number 9
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL152017
1100 AM AST Mon Sep 18 2017

...MARIA RAPIDLY INTENSIFIES INTO A MAJOR HURRICANE...
...THE EYE IS EXPECTED TO MOVE THROUGH THE LEEWARD ISLANDS LATE THIS
AFTERNOON OR THIS EVENING...

DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
------------------------------
At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Maria was located
near latitude 14.7 North, longitude 60.1 West. Maria is moving
toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this motion
with some decrease in forward speed is expected through Tuesday
night. On the forecast track, the center of Maria will move across
the Leeward Islands late today and tonight, over the extreme
northeastern Caribbean Sea Tuesday and Tuesday night, and approach
Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Wednesday.

Reports from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate
that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 120 mph
(195 km/h) with higher gusts. Maria is a category 3 hurricane on
the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Additional rapid
strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Maria is
expected to be a dangerous major hurricane as it moves through the
Leeward Islands and the northeastern Caribbean Sea.

More of the sactimonious cliche

My thoughts and prayers go out to the islanders who will again be deluged with thoughts and prayers. Thoughts and prayers are a piss poor substitute for effective action on mitigating the impacts of climate change. Post-crisis thoughts and prayers have become the prevailing American cop-out for addressing several of the major issues staring us in the face.

Time for a visit to the bank. There is going to be great deals on land in the south!

Last I heard , there was no one left on Barbuda to pray for.

OMG...here we go again. My thoughts are with Florida...again.

This is rising to the level of "insane" now. :(

Waiting for official confirmation, but Maria may now be stronger than Irma in terms of pressure at least.

Irma 914Mb
Maria 913Mb

Seeing information that virtually ALL of Puerto Rico is without power and that estimates are 'months' before restoration.

I was just about to post that. PR is fucked. Now is Elon Musk's opportunity to whip out some mega-power-stations to get the island plugged back in. Except the problem isn't generation so much as distribution. Transformer and relay stations, power lines, all down, all needing to be rebuilt.

shit like these natural disasters, and shit like the ravages caused by war, make me count my blessings every single day
