MARIA ROCKS
from another thread...
to plug or not to plug....
v. tr. Informal.
To publicize (a product, for example) favorably, as by mentioning on a broadcast: authors who plug their latest books on TV talk shows.
v. intr. Informal.
To work doggedly and persistently

A few here have consisitently impressed me with their comments. They are not technical corrections, they are needed also, to an extent much more than I see. Maria2394 is one that always manages to get the heart of the poem, seeing what is often missed by others. Doing so, she is improving her work. This is the kind of plugging that pays off for writing. Convincing an audience that your current work is worth reading does not.

You want to write, comment, you want to write interesting, leave interesting comments.

This woman writes like her life depends on it, does not write to impress. I love her for that. :rose: :rose: :rose:

P.S. I left out one other definition for plug, we can discuss

I'm so glad to see you did this thread. I am a great fan of Maria. When she first came here and I read her first poem I thought WOW! I told her at the time we need people like her on this forum. She remembers, I'm sure.

You're right--she has a great honesty in her writing and a natural-sounding voice that always comes across and reaches the reader.

I dont know what to say, 1201. Youre so good to me. I was almost just joking about being worshipped the other day  and you made me feel like a queen

thank you :)

No maria, you have been good to me. :rose: :rose: :rose: Beyond that I see your comments on others, you do the time, I think it makes you a better writer, I know its done it for me. There is another who has been good to newbies, and I've seen leave a lot of comments, and is she ever tells you a line is good, believe her.

We need more good honest comment leavers.

I don't know if I told you this Maria, I bury alot of stuff in some of mine, sometimes when I see your comments, my mouth drops open, how did she see it?

I never know what you're talking about. Just adore me and everything will be fine.

Eve is that a possum on your hat? Town softball team mascot?
I have that hat somewhere. It says tosty's (I think) on it. It's a WI hat from an old friend. I don't like my chubby face in this photo but the hat makes me happy and happy is what it's all about.

RYBKA ROCKS

and I dont think he hears it enough. He puts in tough reviews, but helpful, always and fair and has taken too many hits for just being honest. He's a wonderful "crappie critic" whom I adore :) Thanks for your bluntness and honest honesty:rose:

poetry side, needs more honest comments, comments you can use to improve, comments that let the person know you read the thing. Rybka, Eve, you've been plugged, whose comments do you think are good, honest?
I get back I want to a whole thread of names of people plugged for honest comments.

Thank you, Maria, you know that I have always enjoyed your words and valued your opinion/perspective, but while I try to be honest, I haven’t thought of myself as ‘blunt’. As a matter of fact, I try to be exceptionally gentle, since I have been taken to task in the past for not being nice enough. :( For a cantankerous old New England curmudgeon I think I am behaving like a pussycat! :cathappy: ;)

As the best critic I would give a shout out to YDD, even though we strongly disagreed on many things, and I would mention jthserra, Judo, and Lauren Hynde, among those not yet mentioned, as being very helpful to me. :rose:

But, if you like your coffee strong and black and want criticism the same way, then I will give you blunt (and acerbic as well). I have to go back a ways, but for truthful commentary that will rip you a new asshole. . .

Senna Jawa rocks!

:nana:

Maria does rock!! Always has she made me feel great- not just good about my work, and I appreciate that more than she'll ever know.

Rybka also rocks!

But I don't know Senna Jawa...

Rybka, I think you been doing a fine job reviewing, I applaud the way you have been handling it lately. Mention what you think is worthy, it is your view, I have respect for that.
jthserra is easily one of the most thoughtful, intelligent writers around here, his reviews and comments are missed by me, even though he did not leave many on mine.
Being more recent, I have not seen many comments by Judo, Lauren Hynde, or Senna Jawa. I am sure that is everyone's, who wishes to write better, loss.
On Christmas morning I received an email from someone informing me that YDD was their Aunt and they now had her computer. This was an addendum to a PM YDD had never sent to me. Oh, Merry Christmas. After some quick emails to Tara Blackwood, you had extensive correspondence with YDD, I concluded that this was not some cruel hoax, and that she had passed away.
"As the best critic I would give a shout out to YDD" Let me join you in that shout.
YDD

Simply she was the best, one of the reasons I stayed. I enjoyed reading her comments on others. She left a mere handful on mine, two of which told me she was something special. I write from theories, to test theories. Her's, for months was, the only comment (and the only 100, she gave me) on which I would describe as a revolving assault piece. The other comment was on a failure of mine, which relied on knowledge and intent of koans and an obscure movie "A place in the sun" and had several layers of misdirection in it. The comment she left made me fully aware, that a reasonable attempt was made at understanding, and that the failure was mine, (too esoteric) all without directly saying so. You can not get any better than that.
YDD

The biggest complaint against YDD was that she did not post anything, so one could not see what she wrote, If she did, I doubt whether some would have seen.
This thread was started to honour Maria who exposes herself, not only in her writing but also in her comments. Personally, I would feel horrible to think that I did it if as a "reward" for the wonderful comments she has left on mine. I checked, she has ripped me in the past, and she has left comments on others that I do not agree with, another view, all for the betterment of the art.
