My wife and I are hosting a Mardi Gras party in February and need ideas for adult games. We have a mixed crowd coming (some wild, some conservative). We want games to be provacative, yet not too crazy. I was thinking of ways for people to "earn" beads. I am thinking of things along the lines of flashing, lap dances, and maybe some milder acts so that the conservative guests aren't left out. Not x-rated acts.

Has anybody been to party like this or have some ideas?

I'm originally from New Orleans but live in the midwest now, but Mardi Gras is in my blood. Being so far away I have to create my own Mardi Gras fun. Remember, Mardi Gras and New Orleans are in the same family as food and drinks. I know you asked for game ideas but if you have plenty of food, especially some associated with New Orleans and provide lots of Hurricanes, some of your conservative friends may let some of their inhibitions fall to the wayside. It's a strange phenom to see what some people will do for beads. That's the first place to start. Good luck.

There are wild people in Idaho?

I know, completely unhelpful, but that was my first thought. :D

How conservative are the conservative people? Are they really just more reserved, or do they, say, frown upon sex between unmarried people, nudity, etc.?

Maybe you could do something along the lines of a dance contest or some other competition, awarding beads/prizes for the most creative or outrageous moves?

Some body shots (maybe lemon drops are more Big Easy than tequila shots)? Another thing that's not a game, but could be fun is purple, yellow and green alcoholic jello jigglers in fun mardi gras-like shapes.

If it's a smaller group, adult/"anything goes" pictionary could be fun. You could tie the topics into the theme, with things that remind people of LA, the south and hedonism.

Truth or Dare, 2 Truths and 1 Lie and similar (often deemed "icebreaker") games could be fun and still allow the more conservative people to feel comfortable while (hopefully) being loosened up by the more wild partygoers' open responses.

Thanks for the advice. The Mardi Gras-colored jello shots are an excellent idea. I was wanting to have signature drink, but was afraid something like a hurricane would get spilled on my carpet. Jello shots are perfect.

My conservative friends would appreciate some provocative games, but would probably not flash or do anything wild. But if you get a few drinks in them and if my wild friends take the lead, you never know ;).

If anyone knows of any games where I could have guests pair up with someone other than their SO and perform a task. I read about a game where the female has to run a golf ball up one pant leg and down the other of the male. And vice-versa. Something along those lines.

Doesn't that and similar have a fair amount of potential to make people really uncomfortable?

I wouldn't try to push anything too "adult" or sexual. If it happens, fine, but if it doesn't the games will be fun for everyone, no matter their openness.

I wouldn't go quite as far as the golf-ball game yu mentioned, but relay races where they have to pair up and cooperate without hands -- an egg/ping-pong ball between ther forheads, a tennis ball trapped between their chests, etc -- and half the pair has to pair off with a new team-mate for the return lap.

The gyrations required to transfer a tennis ball from between players A and B to between Players A and C can get seriously, yet inadvertantly sensuous.

My first thought however, was Twister -- IIRC, there is a party version of the game that isn't limited to a four-by-six plastic mat; the colored dots are separate pieces which can be spread over an entire room, so big crowds can all play at once. Set up an appropriately sized room or area with Twister dots.

Since New Orleans and MArdi Gras are closely associated with music, perhaps some variation on musical chairs -- maybe "Musical Laps?" -- would be appropriate.

A word of caution: I wouldn't hope for too much alcohol fueled "loosening up" because that kind of "loosening up" sometimes results in lawsuits and/or criminal charges if it goes too far.
