Get ready for a major victory for President Biden and the Democratic congress by the end of October.

President Biden is taking the mantle of of the Social Democracy Populist President.

If and when they get it done, I will give a ton of credit to House Speaker Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, and even the progressive and moderate negotiators who worked towards a compromise.

It looks like the Democratic big tent bare knuckles legislative brawl will likely end up as an honorable draw.

Politics is the art of the possible, and 1.9 - 2.2 Trillion for human infrastructure sounds about right for what is possible.

Now get it done.

For your reading pleasure...

But while Manchin has signaled some flexibility on the top-line number, there are a number of significant disagreements still to resolve with fellow Democrats.

One major sticking point is his insistence that the reconciliation bill include the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits using federal funds for abortion expenses.

Another major difference is Manchin’s insistence that natural gas be eligible for grants under the $150 billion Clean Electricity Performance Program, a core component of the reconciliation bill’s attempt to combat climate change.

Manchin has also balked at a carbon tax, an idea being pushed hard by Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Chris Coons (D-Del.) and other Democrats. The West Virginia senator is worried it could be used to eliminate jobs in the coal industry, which historically has been a major employer in his state.

Negotiations are taking place.

I feel sorry for the guy who first discovered a pocket of natural gas. Poor bugger probably didnt even know what hit him.

Joe Manchin IS the Senetor from West Virginia, so I would expect him to leverage his position to maximize the benefits and limit the costs for his state and his political position in any legislation. Not being from West Virginia, I can't be sure whether he's pushing his advantage too far or not.

I DO know that NOT getting a deal done, regardless of the particulars, is mutually assured destruction for the moderate and progressive Democrats.

Realism and pragmatism should ultimately win the day.

Manchin also ought to know, as a Democrat from a state that turned super red pretty much overnight, he's already on borrowed time there no matter what happens. If he is seen as blocking anything whatsoever from getting done...well, that sells in a Republican primary, but that's about it.

Schumer and Pelosi can go fuck themselves. Fucking crumbs. I'm sure all their corporate donors are getting sweet contracts. Meanwhile 45,000 Americans die each year from lack of healthcare and they do NOTHING!

the number of uninsured nonelderly Americans increased for three straight years, growing by 2.2 million from 26.7 million in 2016 to 28.9 million in 2019, and the uninsured rate increased from 10.0% in 2016 to 10.9% in 2019.

If you have any idea how they could get single payer through this Congress, I'm all ears.

Yeah, it's BD's friends who are preventing anything like that. Who does he think he's fooling?

Easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle. These heartless, greedy bastards rather take their filthy lucre than provide the universal healthcare that the rest of the civilized world receives as a human right. 45,000 Americans that die every year is of no concern to them. You might as well ask me can I make a shit sandwich taste delicious.

That puts the industry on track to break its spending record for the second year in a row. Not only that, but its first-quarter spending was more than double what was spent by the second-highest-spending industry, electronics companies.

There are currently 1,270 registered lobbyists for pharmaceuticals and health products — more than two lobbyists for every member of Congress.

It's not the millions upon millions upon millions of dollars the industry bribes our elected officials with why we don't have universal healthcare. It's the hippies and people who don't love Hillary Clinton enough.

Two-thirds of Congress members received pharma donations in 2020

Although the GOP tends to offer more solid support for the pharmaceutical industry than Democrats, the industry donated more last year to Democrats. In 2020, Democrats in Congress hauled in $11.9 million from the pharma sector while Republicans collected $7.7 million.

More than two-thirds of Congress cashed a pharma campaign check in 2020

Seventy-two senators and 302 members of the House of Representatives cashed a check from the pharmaceutical industry ahead of the 2020 election — representing more than two-thirds of Congress

https://www.statnews.com/feature/prescription-politics/federal-full-data-set/

This observational study, which analyzed publicly available data on campaign contributions and lobbying in the US from 1999 to 2018, found that the pharmaceutical and health product industry spent $4.7 billion, an average of $233 million per year, on lobbying the US federal government; $414 million on contributions to presidential and congressional electoral candidates, national party committees, and outside spending groups; and $877 million on contributions to state candidates and committees. Contributions were targeted at senior legislators in Congress involved in drafting health care laws and state committees that opposed or supported key referenda on drug pricing and regulation.

Government efforts to lower drug costs and other legislative and regulatory initiatives may be counteracted by campaign donors and lobbyists in the pharmaceutical and health product industry.

Politics and healthcare are the arts of the possible.

Compromises sometimes have to be made.

Meanwhile........ let's get the build back better plan at somewhere around 2 Trillion passed so kids and adults can potentially have a better quality of life, which should translate to better health, and return on the investment down the road with fewer poverty / stress related health problems.

Investing in human infrastructure is an apt catch phrase.

I think you're confusing "compromise" with being rich, greedy, heartless, soul less, bastards which will cash corporate checks and watch 45,000 Americans die needlessly each year so they can afford overpriced ice cream. They are filthy pieces of shit.

2.2 trillion is an acceptable amount. Let the progressives sign off on the Bill and introduce something of their own
