The question, directed towards women, seems simple: Would you rather be alone in the woods with a man or a bear?

While there’s no unanimous answer, a good number of women on TikTok, Instagram and X have made it clear they’d prefer the bear. This has sparked anger among some men online, but more than that, it has snowballed into a valuable discussion about violence against women and how danger doesn’t always take the shape of a wild animal on the prowl.

Oh I see how it works and understand the hypothetical. Even though there is much being read between the lines to add to the reasoning or the choice.

Yet, has she spent anytime, one on one with a bear? The chances of a bear doing what a bear can do if the bear decides to do what a bear can do to a woman, would be quite high.

I've never heard of a woman's (subjective) lack of beauty being enough to repel a bear's ferocity, but there's plenty of accounts where women's physical beauty wasn't the focus of them being raped by men.

It really is a silly question. Either way, the odds of anything bad happening are so astoundingly low that it's barely (bearly?) worth asking in the first place.

I have personally encountered bears in the woods, and I've personally encountered men in the woods. I survived both encounters.

I've eaten bear meat before, however. If anything, maybe we should ask the bear how it feels about this whole encounter.
