As per title, this was a story I found a long time (2+ years iirc) ago, and recently tried to dig up.
The rough plot outline was: a human ambassador (space-navy officer perhaps?) gets sent aboard a human-alien "peace" ship for a 1-3 year stint. This ship contains a bunch of aliens who've been gifted human bodies, but are normally floating energy-blobs. These aliens have no concept of love or close relationships, but are extremely fond of casual sex. As he boards, the previous human ambassador (female) tells him how awful it was being stuck on a ship for <duration> without another true human to interact with, and being unable to form a relationship with anyone, despite having non-stop sex (and they promptly have some strange pity-sex where she begs him to show her some human intimacy, or something along those lines).
As the plot (such as it is) evolves, he turns out to be so outrageously charismatic that he imparts the human ability to form close relationships onto these aliens, and snags himself the most beautiful alien as a mate. I forget exactly how this goes down, or indeed, works out in the end, which is part of why I want to find and revisit this story!
Some other highlights included a pheromone-induced orgy where the main character fucks himself into a state of medical emergency, and the intro scene where the newly-human-form aliens wake from their pods and realise they have genitalia. Aside from that, I don't remember much (I'm terrible with names at the best of times). There was something about the secret heart of the ship being a big energy-tank full of these aliens, and the key to their inability to love being was that their mating usually involving energy-ing through one another, which they do the whole time to pass on knowledge and ideas?
Extreme paraphrasing aside, the story was cheesy and lovable and had solid sex scenes sprinkled throughout. I've had a proper go searching everywhere I could think on Lit, and trawled through enough Google results to know I'm in no danger of finding anything, so I'm giving up and hoping somebody out there knows what I'm on about and can point me in the right direction
