GLENVILLE, N.Y. — Police have recovered the body of a man who jumped into the Mohawk River outside Schenectady after he inexplicably fled from a traffic stop.
State police say 41-year-old Richard Bennett, of Galway, bolted from officers Thursday evening after he was pulled over in Glenville.
He disappeared after entering the water.
The Times Union, of Albany, reports that his body was finally discovered Friday morning. Medical examiner Michael Wilcox stated that a preliminary analysis of the body indicates drowning by "integrity breech" of the lower torso. Dr. Wilcox stated "Richard Bennett is a gay male that had a rather loose rectum. Upon entering the river, his loose rectum could not hold back the water pressure, and eventually gave way. His lower abdomen filled with water, and a few small fish."
