Yes Lit's - you are my primary source.

Let's say that I wanted to print up a batch of books......

Not "publish" is and all that "that word" means.

Let's say that I've got money, I've got "a book" - and I simply want to get it printed, bound and delivered to my door step - to do with what I will.

Any place on the web or otherwise you could steer me toward, would be wonderfully appreciated.

I'm fantasizing of a company that will take a "fully completed, edited, copyrighted, all rights issues taken care of - body of material," and provide me with some sort of a "Chinese Menu/One from column A/B," sort of price list relative to - bindings, paper quality, hard-cover/soft and of coarse quantity.

Does anyone know of such a company? Close to it? Where I could find out about this sort of thing?

E-mail me privately if you wish - but I do think other's would be interested.

Thank you so very much - Sparky.

Thanks for the info Ambro......

But I guess I was too complex in my question......

In essence, in this case - "I am the publisher." I don't need no stinkin' publisher.

What I need is a "Bookmaker." A printer, a book binder - a journey man, a tradesman.

This bood is cooked - it's done - it has no legal problems - it needs no distribution (I'll handle that) - it simple needs to get printed and bound.

Do the companies you forwarded - to that?

Thanks again. Other's please chime in.

PS Ambro - limited success on the MP3's will let you know when I get the time.

Yeah but......

I'm talking about printing a run of 2 to 10K books here. Not repair or onesey-twosey stuff.

I want to publish a book, with the author's permission that is now out of print - and give the sucker away as a parting gift at public events. I pick up the tab - he picks up the exposure.

Nah - well maybe.....

Publisher's please - I don't need no stinking middle man - I don't think. I shouldn't. The books is done - it doesn't need or require "professional" distribution or any promotion.

I just want a fucking pile of books. It's too simple for a publisher.

Hey, Spark, check out Writer's Digest. In the back there is usually a hundred ads for the kind of company you are looking for. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Bought a "Learn Gaelic the Easy Way" tape thingerbob from Barnes and Noble. Surely they have one in NYC. In the bag was a little flyer from B & N stating that yes! they will publish your manuscript in an actual high quality book. I pitched it before I read whatever they had to say on royalties and distribution. I remember they wanted to charge me $99 bucks for it.

Try http://www.inkspot.com they have lots of info on "self publishing" or having your manuscript put into a book for a price.

You can find Writer's Digest at almost ANY bookseller or newsstand.

Wanna do it?

I'll only say this once...

The writer who mentioned Barnes and Noble is getting close to target. The publisher partnered with Barnes and Noble in this is iUniverse.com (www.iuniverse.com). This is a highly repututable "print-on-demand" publisher who whill indeed putlish your book, list it on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders, Buy.com, Books a Million, and more. It is stocked by Ingrams Distributing. You are issued an ISBN number and iUniverse will take care of all sales and pay you a 20% commission. You can buy your books direct from iUniverse at trade prices.

They have services for new writers, published authors, academic, and out-of-print. Prices vary, but don't count on the $99 price unless you can email the book. If you need to scan or send graphics it will need to be submitted on cd-rom. First manuscript is then about $134. The next package up is $234. I'm not sure of the prices for out-of-print books but it is probably based on who does the scanning.

Cost per copy is probably higher than you paying for a run of 2-10K, but then you only need to buy as you go.

If you're serious about wanting a genuine book publisher let me know and I'll dig out the name of the one I used to use in the states. Feel free to email me. If you want a look at what we have done with iUniverse then check our website at http://www.closetdesire.cjb.net.

Good Luck

Check with your local high-school on who prints their yearbooks. These companies will usually also print and bind limited-production (low quantity) books, if you supply camera-ready, already-laid-out pages.

I have friends that own a print shop. Would that be of help to you? They will pretty much print anything I think. If they can't do it maybe they know someone who can.

Look up Robinson Curriculum on the net
Then go to e-groups and do the same--this homeschool curriculum calls for printing up books off CD and binding them yourself. The families that use this method of educating their children should be able to give you plenty of advice AND a good source for fair pricing. (I know I have researched this boefore myself and was surprized at the variety of things you could obtain for cheap.)
