Making characters realistic?

Thanks for the inspiration I got from this thread, it's been a long time since I wrote my last story or poem. My newest story will be about a late 40-early 50's woman, married and two kids who already moved out of the house, who has a lesbian encounter with a lingerie saleswoman.
It starts with her standing in front of her mirror and looking at the fat on her belly and how her boobs have sagged and then decides to go shopping for a nice bra.
Of course when buying a bra the size will be mentioned, but it won't be a focal point in the story, just the fact that (almost) anyone, with a little effort, can still be attractive at any age.
