Good start to an idea. An ancient text, The Fuckronomicon, or something like that. It raises sex demons from the underworld, or possibly turns normal people into sexual beasts. Maybe the person who reads the words in the book aloud, or maybe the person he was thinking about as he read it.

I recall an ancient SF/fantasy about a reporter who acquires a magic typewriter. Anything he types becomes news, reality. But just as in THE MONKEY'S PAW, all wishes have costs, all creations have repercussions. The immutable laws of the universe demand balance, at great cost to the wisher and those close. TANSTAAFL.

Write your wishes in the magic book (or tablet; let's get modern.) You want a cheating three-way? Your child is badly injured in a hit-and-run -- driven by one of your lovers, racing to your tryst. Et fucking cetera. The story is a tragedy.

Another Idea, He notices names and dates in the front of book, when he looks them up he finds out the dates or the days the people died. When he first uses the book his name and a date of his death appears, each time he uses it the date of his death changes.

What sort of sacrifice? Physical? Moral/ethical? Spiritual?

So it's basically a Sexnote, like the Death Note except people survive this? I guess there are worse ideas. Honestly I would just copy Death Note line for line and call it an awesome day.

Having seen Bible Black, no it's like Death Note but with Sex. the only thing particularly like Bible Black is the sacrifice and while it's been a while I don't think that's even in all of them.

Like the ballad, it could start with an abduction to a faraway place and lead to a narrow escape, with the protagonist bringing the book back as a token.
