Made in China

The CAP1400 is an enlarged version of the AP1000 pressurized water reactor developed from the Westinghouse original by SNPTC with consulting input from the Toshiba-owned company.

Used to be, all Soviet engineering looked just like American engineering. Now the Chinese engineering does.

But...

Often manufacture is not nearly as good as the engineering.

Look at the Bay Bridge replacement project for Frisco. When the welding inspectors came to observe fabrication, the individual welders ran off, because they had never been qualified.

Most American anger towards "Made in China" is based solely on the fact that they've created their Middle Class by destroying the USA's middle class.

Anyone who can get past their (misplaced) anger over being out-competed in the global economy would know their lives are filled with perfectly good Chinese components and products.

What does that mean to you.

Would you buy one of these?

I think it is a bit out of my price range.

I have deep, longstanding friendships in the Mennonite and Quaker communities. To maintain their "equipment" they had to turn to Chinese manufacturers to make replacement parts because American companies no longer do that museum kind of work. When they ordered, they always factored in a 50% failure rate for their orders. I'd hate to have to order two backyard reactors for my family's energy needs.

:D ;) ;)

The people destroying the American middle class are not in China for the most part they are in DC and the larger liberal blue urban centers...

The rich don't pay taxes, they pass them on. They have the power to make sure regulations only apply to their competition.

The poor don't pay taxes, the receive the largess of the treasury. The poor ignore regulations and are happy to dabble in the black market.

That leaves the middle class paying taxes and having to conform to regulation just to be able to tread water...

I'm a bit of a wood carver. Chinese chisels are shite! Their quality control on the steel is hit and miss. You would swear that your chisel was made of two grades of tool steel when you try to sharpen them. Half the cutting edge is noticeably softer than the other sometimes.

For critical parts, never buy Chinese.

Agreed; anything requiring precision steel is not their best stuff.

But anyone who's put together a chinese gas barbeque already knows that.

It wasn't so long ago that the Chief was criticizin' the Middle Class for their "excessive" entitlements.

America always made the best nails. Hands down.
Now you can't even find nails made in the USA.

Even Robertson screws are made in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, China.

I have a friend who works for a microphone company that builds in China, and know another maker doing the same. Here is the thing most don't know about Chinese manufacturing, they will do what ever you want to what ever specs and grade you want. What this means is that, yes the default is cheaply put together crap made with cheap shit parts. BUT, if you spec out top quality componentry and high level QC, that is what you will get from a Chinese factory. So, it isn't the country of origin that is completely at blame.

Denny

I'm only familiar with car parts, nails, bolts, and screws.

On the average every Chinese car part will either not work from day one, last a few months, or not fit.
The hardware items are a big joke. if you bolt two pieces of metal together make sure it's not something important on your car.

Back home we had Keystone Steel and Wire for fences, posts, nails, and bolts. Always good quality.
A farmer in Tremont, Ill invented Keystone wire fence for his animals.

A guy in Moline, Illinois invented a plow that ran like a deer and the rest is history.
A guy in California invented a tractor that would operate on soft soil. He moved to a washing machine factory in Peoria, Ill. All American made and proud of their work. Also the rest is history.

Then our government had a bright idea.

This can be the case for a lot of manufactured items, like my iPhone or MacBook or even the heat pipes in the water heater of your Keurig coffee machine.. But like any place, greed always raises it's head.

Corruption seems to be an issue which raises it head frequently there too. Not sure if I would trust them to make to spec.

Melamine in pet food....

And their almost sadistic treatment of animals....it's like they go out of their way to be disrespectfully cruel and unusual.

Fuck China...Fuck all of them. If I never get another microwave again so be it.

Yeah! They sure can be mean to animals.

It is a good thing the world's sex toys are not made there.
