We just got back from taking our kids to see this movie. It is excellent!

There are enough animal antics (dancing, chasing, slapstick comedy) to keep children occupied and subtle jokes and sly references to a dozen movies that will leave adults laughing out loud. (At least I was.)

Plus the friendship message, and the grass is always greener message, and so on . . .

We laughed for an hour and a half. I guess we needed it, because when we left the theater we all felt pretty wonderful. Big sigh of relief.

So - ya want some stress relief? There's your ticket, baby.

the penguins. the freaking penguins.

the only bad part of the movie was the VengaBoys. grrrrr.

You don't like to move it, move it?

The monkeys were funny, too. I don't know American Sign Language well enough to tell for sure but it seemed to me that he added a few things. :cathappy:

I like to move it, move it.

crap, now I have the FUCKIN' VENGABOYS stuck in my head! arrrgggghhhh!

I forgot the ASL monkey. I gotta see that again with someone who understands ASL.

Hi Sarahh,

I thought it was cute, but not side-splitting. I liked Ice Age and others better, but this one was good for a Saturday outing with the nieces.

:rose:

I give it a 3 out of 5.

the only REALLY funny part of "Ice Age" was the squirrel thingy

Has anyone seen the trailer for Open Season (I think that's what it's called?) where the animals get their revenge on man? Looks very funny.

Yes - saw it today before Madagascar, actually. My kids laughed through that, too.

Scottish squirrels? Toooo funny. But it won't be out until 2006.

Maybe because I'm not kissing anyone's ass?
Oh, I thought it might be due to the stockings (which are quite nice btw)

It's a different kind of movie than Ice Age, I think.

Ice Age is deeper, with the death of the mom, and the death of Manfred the Mammoth's family, and the evil sabertooths chasing them to get revenge on Man by killing the baby. Real death, real trauma, real worries.

Yes, everything works out ok (though the mom is still dead) dad and son reunited, people are going to be kinder to the animals, and Mannie has worked out some of his issues.

Good movie, yes, and we bought it as soon as it was available on DVD, but it's a very serious flick. I think they needed the squirrel (Scrat?) to provide some comic relief.

On the other hand, there isn't a whole lot of seriousness in Madagascar. Oh, a bit of dark comedy when the characters learn about how predators eat, but nothing to really cause worry in any of the viewers.

It's a fun and silly romp - the penguins are positively insane (we killed them and ate their livers - he joked). I just don't think they are striving for a deep message.

It's just fun. And we needed that today. (And we are already counting the months until we can buy the DVD - probably the end of November).

:)
