Do men and women really have different ideas about what they want from porn?

I don't think so.

Myself, sometimes I read for the story, sometimes to feed masturbatory fantasies. Prefer the former to the latter.

I doubt men and women are that much different.

Well, normally yes. But I think we're more interested in the non-normal ones here. ;)

And yes Charley, it's a totally fantabulistic question. However did you think it up all by yourself?

Why do you not think so RG?

Well, the first part before the blue smiley was an answer.

I meant that normally, yes, I think they do differ. I don't think many women get off on stories. Or at least, not on mine. (What am I doing wrong?!) The typical email feedback I get is from males (tell me it's because of my username and I'll behead you or something) telling me how many times they came (I think my highest is 5). The feedback I get from females is mostly about my romance stories and they'll say something like how sweet/romantic/well written it was.

Don't generally see a lot of difference in their behaviour, despite their protestations.

Speaking from the comments I get on my stuff, they are almost equally split between men and women, whether it's one of my stroke pieces or my deeper works.

I was teasing - I know what you meant. (and your stories are good babe - I was not referring to text. ;) What about porn DP ? Movies - I should have said that earlier ... I did not mean to mention stories, but rather Internet or DVDs - Do chicks  even rent porn or purchase Internet sites?

Haven't the slightest, Charley.

I know I don't. partly due to finances.

Mostly because most porn of that type really blows chunks. Fake breasted bottle blondes do not turn my crank.

Oh man. There's so much available for free. Why would anyone...

Oh, wrong answer. Uhmmm. I don't know. I think I'm the wrong study group. I mean, the place where I come from, they wouldn't. I'm just a freak.

The women I've known have all liked porn, but not a lot of it, for two reasons:

Firstly most of it's obviously aimed at male viewers. Lots of shots of the women, few shots of the men, and the men are often less attractive than the women. The men are silent, while the women are screaming with incredibly badly faked orgasms. Of coruse the reason the men are silent is so that the male viewer can more easily mentally insert himself into the movie...

Secondly so much porn is formulaic. There's a male-female scene, with one minute of him going down on her, three minutes of her going down on him, he puts his penis in her in the vagina, changes to another position and does it again, changes position a third time, and after that goes to anal sex, and finishes up by coming on her face or chest.

Then there's a female-female scene with dildos. Then there's a male-male-female scene, and sometimes a female-female-male scene.

Between it focusing on the male's view, and its being formulaic, many women get quickly bored by it.

Also, while there's plenty of anal sex and girl-girl love out there, there's not as much as we see in porn. So if the woman's not interested in anal or other women, she'll be bored by a lot of pornos.

I think that's the reason for the popularity of a lot of the softer stuff, the stuff where they do the deed but they sort of have a plot, and don't show genitals. That tends to have better-looking men in it, men who actually make a noise and have a personality beyond "suck it, bitch." But of course there's no genitals shown.

My girlfriend summed up as, "can't I see a plot and some cock?":D

LOL SLUT! joking of couse, but I know where you are, so tell us what is the difference between a girl or guy looking or writing porn there? Is it much different than what you know of North American girls and guys?

Hmm, here. Ok, I do not know of any girls among my friends who look at porn. Boys, many. I have no idea why, but girls are probably too shy to sit and stare at naked people. It's embarrassing to them, even when they're alone. (I have no such problems though. I.. er... tend to think of it as research. Yes.)

One friend of mine, she looked at a porn video and started crying. She thought the girl was being exploited too much. I mean, feelings in porn videos?! I tried explaining to her that she gets paid and all, but... seriously, she thought it was too much of a degradation.

I have no idea where I'm going with this and if it's any help at all.

The women I know (away from the AH...let's use a different sample) who actively enjoy porn seem to be into a few things which, while certainly not exclusive to them, I consider interesting.

One is that they tend to like more natural bodies...none of them in my personal experience, be they bi, gay or straight has been into the surgically addicted girls or (yeah, there are some) guys...

Two is that they seem to want at least a slightly plausible set up...not necessarily realistic, but at least plausible...a reason for the encounter, even if it is a bad one...

Three is that they are more interested if the directing is more than "let me see how close I can get to that dick ramming into that pussy"...they want a litte varity oin the views and to see the people, not just the parts...

now, how much of this is because I share those opinions and am either projecting that onto them or they are admitting to that because they know I feel that way? Hard to say. Although I know at least one female friend away from Lit who has admitted to a fantasy of being in a "Bang Bus" episode, and that is totally not an idea she got from me....

Intelligent men want the same thing as intelligent women.

And it all depends upon your mood.

Sometimes you want a quick fuck-me story.

Sometimes you want more of a plot, more romance, more build-up.

But I really, really like to see good ass-fucking.

(That goes without saying.)

I would think so.

I mean, as a general rule, men and women do have certain tendencies within their gender as far as likes and dislikes, and I think porn is both physical, emotional, and mental enough of an entertainment that it would appeal to different facets of each gender's "typical" likes/dislikes.

But there are always exceptions to any rule you might try to make about it.

What I know about it is that most of the people that have PC/PM/emailed me about one of my 2 stories have been woman proclaiming themselves straight and my stories, for those who don't know, are m/m. They have all been very positive, the only one that I've gotten that was a flame was anon so I have no opinion on the sender's sex.

My point is that a lot of straight woman seem to really love m/m erotica which is and isn't surprising to me.

Hope I was helpful, Miss Knickers.

I think there's such a thing as male porn and female porn. They overlap quite a bit, and a good story is a good story, but there is a difference, and if you want to see it you look not at the best stories, which are good precisely because they have general appeal, but at the worst, in which the author's naivete lets the differences show through.

If there's any doubt about this, you just have to look at the Romantica market, which is huge, overwhelmingly female, and is the fastest growing segment of book publishing in the US today. It's quite simply porn for women, and if you want to play in it, you'd better know what your audience wants. They have definite things they look for in a story.

Typical entry-level men's porn seems to be more graphic in description, more genital, and usually about a sexual conquest or experience, a kind of locker-room story about what was done. The sex seldom has emotional consequences--I saw, I came, I conquered.

Women's porn is more emotionally focused, and the sex takes place in a social context. The experience transforms the characters. Very often love is involved, and the sex has emotional consequences. Seduction is as important as the sex itself, and often moreso. The details of the act are often glossed over. Once the emotional committment is made, what the characters actually do in bed isn't that important.

That's not to say that women don't read fuck scenes, or that men don't read women's porn. But I think there's a distinction.

Visual or imagined

I find video porn generally boring and formulaic. Maybe I haven't seen any good videos...

Written porn - that depends. I have read erotic books intended for women and those intended for men. Whether they work for me depends on the quality of the writing, the plausibility of the story and not necessarily the perceived appropriateness of the fantasy as male or female. If I can imagine myself inside the skin of one of the characters, m or f, and enjoy the action, then the porn works for me. If the story works, even on a very crude level, my imagination does the rest.

Videos do not leave anything to the imagination and just a few details can turn my off switch - e.g. an uncomfortable position, an implausible plot (plot? What plot?), bad acting, or just that I find one of the participants unattractive. 'Unattractive' doesn't necessarily mean physical characteristics but may be the way the actors behave, or act, in the video.

Written porn can be modified by my imagination. Viewed porn can't - although it might give me ideas for later use.

Alpha males and happily ever afters. Although this is shifting (slowly).

I've noticed a high number of F authors of M/M "romantica" and a dearth of M authors across almost all sub-genres. Seems odd to me. And there is VERY little F/F material at all (which I'm doing my best to remedy *grin*).

As for visual (video/still) porn, it doesn't do much for me -- regardless of the intended audience. Sure, I appreciate erotic images -- but sexual stimulation is rooted in the other senses for me (primarily taste/scent).

The video porn I like always shows the whole bodies, and especially the faces. I have to see some emotion, otherwise it leaves me cold.

I don't know who came up with the idea of the "meat shot"--the genital closeup. It's like watching surgery, and about as sexy.

One of my favoriet videos was a cheapy in which a ballerina was getting yentzed. The poor actress was so excited and so into it that she simply couldn't control her expressions. You could see her struggling to maintain her professional look of being totally uninvolved, but then it would just feel so good that she'd lose it. Her eyes would roll into her head and her mouth would fall open and she'd start panting and shaking and pulling the guy's hair. One of the sexiest things I've ever seen. And no meat shot.
