Lyre Bird

I've heard one that imitated a car trying to start and repeatedly backfiring.

The first recording is genuine up to and including the camera motor shutter. The remainder is a con. I have the original programme DVD and it finishes there

So no chain saw?

It's still very cool.

:)

I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if one could do a chainsaw. They're quite incredible mimics.
Shy little buggers, too. I've only ever properly seen one in a wildlife park. The one I heard doing the engine impersonation was just off a track, I could see dirt flying up from where it was scratching, but wasn't game enough to go closer incase I scared it away.
It had a bunch of bird calls it could do, but it was obviously proud of the engine sound - that was on high rotation, coming up every second or third change.
