On March 12, 2013, the Senate Intelligence Oversight Committee asked President Obama's Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, "Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?"

The retired Army Lieutenant General responded, under oath, "No, sir."

Senator Ron Wyden (D - Oregon) knew this wasn't true, and knowing that Clapper had deliberately lied to Congress, he asked Clapper's office the next day if they'd like to "clarify his remarks for the record".

Clapper's office responded by saying Clapper stood behind everything he said.

On June 6, 2013 Clapper's office admitted that they'd been collecting data for years.

On June 10, 2013, James Clapper laughed at Andrea Mitchell's questions on TV, saying he considered his answers to be the "least untruthful" he could give, and admitted he'd been "too clever by half".

General Clapper is a disgrace to America. He has no credibility, and President Obama should fire him.

The problem is the whole system is corrupted beyond fixing.

About the only way I know to protect Americans is for Americans to have immunity for anything the CIA and NSA collects about Americans from domestic sources.

a NON ENTITY thrown under a pretend bus

wont deflect whats going on

If the President does this with an eye towards efficiency and saving a couple of bucks Susan Rice and Eric Holder can carpool out of Washington with the general.

Oh My: DNI Chief James Clapper Says He Gave Congress “Least Untruthful” Answer When Testifying Before Congress On Domestic Spying…

At least he’s being honest about lying . . . wait, how does that work?

Via Yahoo News:

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is really struggling to explain why he told Congress in March (see video above) that the National Security Agency does not intentionally collect any kind of data on millions of Americans. His latest take: It’s an unfair question, he said, like “When are you going to stop beating your wife?” And it seems to depend on the meaning of “collect.”

“I responded in what I thought was the most truthful, or least untruthful, manner by saying ‘no,’” Clapper told NBC News on Sunday.

A newly revealed NSA program, however, in which the agency secretly vacuumed up the telephone records of millions of Verizon customers seems to fit the definition of both “data” and “millions of Americans.”

Last week, Clapper said his “no” meant that NSA analysts don’t read Americans’ emails. Some have noted that could explain his earlier answer because “collect” has a precise meaning in intelligence-gathering circles, and it’s along those lines.

Perhaps he should put you on a consulting retainer, after all your expertise in lying is unsurpassed here on the General Board.

Obama bitchslaps Ole CupCake

Update: This basically defies logic.

(CBS News) — The White House on Tuesday came to the defense of Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, after a senator blasted the intelligence official for failing to give “straight answers” on the government surveillance of Americans

President Obama “certainly believes that Director Clapper has been straight and direct in the answers he’s given” Congress, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Tuesday, adding that Clapper has been “aggressive in providing as much information as possible to the American people, to the press.”

Clapper has come under fire for the testimony he gave before the Senate Intelligence Committee in March, when Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., asked him, “Does the [National Security Agency] collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?”

As if this is anything new. Recall that the much-loved Lt. Col Ollie North, when confronted with his repeated lies before Congress during Iran-Contra (you know, when Ronnie Reagan said "We will never negotiate with terrorists!" while negotiating with the Iranians to send them stinger missiles) said: "I did not lie to Congress. I simply told an altered version of the truth."

I am in no way a supporter of the intrusion into our lives re: phone data, but please, you all are carrying on as if this administration is doing things any differently than any other administration.

Be sure to let me know when Dick Cheney is going to be charged for outing a CIA operative (Valerie Plame) and tried as John Kiriakou was...or when any member of the previous administration is going to be vilified for lying about Iraq's non-existent role in anything al-Queda was doing.

Good points.

Cheney should definitely have been prosecuted over the Plame insident.

Dick Cheney says fuck you, and he has a shotgun.;)

Yeah, I do believe most, if not all politicians will lie under oath, to save their own asses.
On a side note : What are the going to swear under oath on, the Bible, their Mother or their conscience, tough choice, eh.
