The main character is a professor (I think). He is going downtown to take his wife to lunch. He sees her getting in someone else's vehicle. He finds out she's cheated on him a couple of times. He gets a transfer to a school in England. He does not divorce her. A year and a half or so later, he gets a message that she wants to meet him at a pub. He thinks she wants the divorce. He finds out her Russian mother is also with her. It turns out she wants to introduce him to his infant daughter. They have some moments, but they do reconcile.
