Lubricant Going Dry?

Hi I have a question about K-Y and lubricants in general. When my gf and I use it, she says she doesn't like it because it dries out quickly and makes her feel sticky inside. The bottle is about 6 yrs old: could that be it or do these things not expire. Also, we don't need to use condom (STD safe, on the pill) so we were wondering if silicone based lubes would be better, since they do not dry out as easily (so I hear)

Any advice would be great. Thanks

Yes, the age of the KY you're using matters...it's water-based, so the water will evaporate eventually (probably long ago in this case). You might want to try KY Silk-E, which is softer and less "goopy" than the regular stuff, or a silicone-based lube. At any rate, it's worth a few dollars to invest in new lube every few month. Good luck!:)

Six YEARS?

Throw that stuff out. Yesterday.

Silicone based lubes do work better for longetivity, or so I've heard...I like the KY Warming Liquid, and use that exclusively now.

Two words: LIQUID SILK.

We have tried a few, and the only thing second to this one is Probe, but it gets sticky and is really stringy coming out of the bottle. For anal, a little Anal-Eze (it numbs a teeny bit for me) a few minutes before entry, and then either Astroglide or the most awesome stuff we've found yet --- LIQUID SILK!! (Sold at mypleasure.com).

2/3 astroglide & 1/3 light baby oil works for most things.

Gel type baby oil and 1/2 astroglide make good resizing lube if you are into reloading ammo or heavy duty ass reaming.

Here's a short article on lubes... and yes, old lube can lose effectiveness. KY has come a long way in the years since your 6 year old product was purchased. Throw the old stuff out now.

(Have to laugh at the website title) :D

In general, I think a bottle or tube of lubricant should be tossed out according to the same guidelines that are offered to women's cosmetics. 6 months is an approximate timeframe. The most important reason they should be tossed out after that time is the possibility of contamination that can cause infection. Secondary would be chemical changes that can occur and irritate the skin.

I like a liquid lube called "JO," it stays slick for a very long time. For many hours, actually. It takes a bit of soap and water to wash off in the shower. You might do a search for Jo lubricant or Jo system.

Since she is on the pill and condoms aren't an issue, you could use any lube on the market. But for those that use condoms, never use an oil-based lube. They can break down the composition of condoms and you may wind up with an unexpected pregnancy.

Good luck in finding something that works for you.

6 years!! Yikes! I don't even keep chapstick for that long.

I use Astro-glide. since it's water-based, you can just add a few drops of water when it starts to feel sticky.
