You can begin submitting on (or before): May 10th
The last day to submit is: June 10th at 11:59EST
Winners will be announced on: June 17th

- NO politics, political figures, or political themes.

- Story must take place in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

- For this special contest, we are allowing standalone stories (NOT individual chapters of long works) that have already been submitted to Literotica in 2020 if they specifically involve the COVID-19 pandemic in the plot. If you have already submitted and published a COVID-19-related story in 2020 and wish to enter it into the contest, please:

- Author must copy and paste the phrase "COVID19 2020" to the "Notes to Admin" field of the submission.

Totally new story event that's popped up out of nowhere!

I contacted Lit on twitter and this works just like any other contest, with top billing and so forth.

I was going to type '2020' in the title like the other event threads, but let's hope this is a one year only thing, for obvious reasons.

On a side note, I had written several virus-themed stories and people really do enjoy the modern take on things. Zero complaints yet.

I already was working on a short COVID story, so this is timely. I've been terrible at staying on deadlines lately (still working at my On The Job story), but hope springs eternal, so I'm in, tentatively.

Well, I've got two I had already finished that I wasn't planning to post here because they're only about 2500 words each, but if there's a contest, that should give them enough of a boost to overcome the lack of attention something so short usually gets.

Guess I'll drop them in the queue :)

I just want to add that the announcement says you can resubmit stories with a COVID19 theme that have already published (info on how in the announcement), and in addition to the cash prize for the author, they're doing donations to the winners' charities of choice.

That's a good catch, the re-submission thing. I had glossed over that.

It looks like it won't get reposted, but it would be added to the List page and the score would be allowed to compete, if I'm reading that right.

As of a few minutes ago, there were already nineteen stories in the contest.

LOL, not to be an asshole but how does one submit before May 10 with an announcement May 11th. :D

Something else makes me wonder - "Winners will be announced on June 17th".

What are the prizes? I thought story events were for shits, giggles and eyeballs? Or did I miss anything in the announcement?

It's using the story event terminology, but it's basically a themed contest. There's a sticky post linking to the announcement at the top of the AH.

Ah, well. Came to the party too late, as usual. My Dare to Shout Love at a Dying City was published last month. It's a isolated-love-in-a-time-of-plague story but it's not not centred on COVID-19 and would require a fair bit of rewriting to fit here.

Thanks for organizing this, in any case.

Mine are up. We'll see if contest traffic will compensate for how short they are and Closing being a little off brand.

Yesterday, in about two hours, I went from nothing but a few vague thoughts, to a COVID-19 first draft. I submitted the final version today. It’s short, and maybe not very good at disbelief suspension, but I like that I was able to write something upbeat and light-hearted on a subject that drags me towards despair.

The sudden establishment of the contest, and the opportunity for existing stories to be entered retroactively, may lead to a lot of confusion, but the $1k for charity could make readers’ votes more meaningful than usual. I have no great ambition for my entry, except to provide a little fun.

It's better as is than it would be as a COVID 19 story. The more extreme circumstances lend it more poignancy and provide a better explanatory backdrop for the characters' actions.

I have just submitted my short entry written from start to finish today.

Started writing mine last night. Let's hope I get it done by the deadline!

Thanks for taking the lead on this, HeyAll.

As I understand the rules, you can ask Laurel to include a pre-existing story into the contest listing. Your story meets the criteria perfectly, I'd say (even if it doesn't explicitly reference Covid 19). I don't think you'd need to change a word.

My request for inclusion failed because my original story, which explicitly references C19 - in the subtitle, no less - is two chapters. On that basis it's not a standalone submission, so that's fair it's not allowed.

Your story though - I'd submit it for inclusion in the listing as is.

My competition story is being based with 1 votes, but not my other new one.
