AMERICA, love it, or get the FUCK out!

And if you dont like how you are treated here, Go somewhere ELSE! We wont miss you!

If that isn't the most ignorant, Un-American thing I have ever heard, I don't know what is.

I get angry whenever I hear anyone say "America, love it or leave it." That isn't what this country is about. This country is supposed to stand for freedom. And this includes the freedom and the ability to grow and change what we, as Americans believe is wrong and unjust to our people.

If we don't like how we're treated, go somewhere else?

Is this what women should have done? Should we have never changed the laws and the mentality of the country as a whole to allow us to be real, voting citizens?

Should slavery have never been abolished?

Should the people we forced into Reservations gotten fed up and left because of how they were treated?

When our rights get stepped on, should we pack our bags and leave America, or should we do our jobs as citizens of this country you think is so great and fight for change to make it an even better place?

I'm not just taking issue with this sigline. Someone came into work last night and got into this conversation with me. His only argument, which he kept repeating over, and over again was exactly the same thing as I quoted from busybody's sigline above.

I knew it.. You don't love me....

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa :(

I agree, this country is abour freedoms. If we want changes then stand up and be heard!

Please allow me to play devil's advocate for a bit here.

I believe that the real sentiment is: If you find a problem with America, you have a few options available to you. You can work constructively to correct the wrong. You can do nothing. You can become a criminal. You can bitch non-stop about how horrible the country is without actually taking any steps to make things better.

If your only solution is the last one (or two), and you think there are other places that you could live that would be better than America, then you are free to go live in those countries.

America is not perfect, but we are not held here against our will either.

I don’t think that’s what they mean.

I say something very close to that when I hear people who’ve just recently moved to California. They start bitching about this or that and how __ state was sooooo much better. Well shit! Why are you here then?
It’s assumed that when you move somewhere it’s because you chose to live there.
Yes, there are circumstances where you had no choice; you’re 10 and you’re parents have decided to move, you’re company transferred you there, etc.
My mom wasn’t born here, but she came here because she knew she had a better change to get ahead here and wanted her children to have a better life. Yes, there were sacrifices and there are things she misses, but I’ve never once heard her say shit about this country because she knows what our life would’ve been like if she’d stayed.
So when I hear people bitch about it yes, I suggest they leave if they hate it here so much.
Sorry.
That’s how I feel.

God Damn it, Raw!

You are really not allowed to post anything on the rare occasion I start a real serious thread. You're making it difficult to not hijack myself into a series of sexual innuendo and anus jokes.

That said, you're right - and I have no clue how Busybody meant it since it was in his sigline.

It just seems as if the prevailing attitude of the people I come across who say these things face to face, like the guy last night is more along the lines of my first post, and it seriously annoys the hell out of me.

Freedom to exploit dumb mass consumers

Freedom to merge and monopolise

Freedom to rape the rest of the world

Freedom to...

You get the picture.

This country would not be somewhere you would want to live if people didn't bitch about it in the past, and make the steps to change and build the country into what it is today.

Are you saying I turn you on?
;)

Part of the problem is that there are assholes of all colors and breeds. People find all sorts of reasons to hate other people - only the wording changes.

Wow. I didn't realize we were allowed to do that. Is that written somewhere? I don't want to do it if I'll get into trouble.

No Schweetie.... Methinks you miss the point.

First and foremost... I'm soon to be 40. I have been a father for a little over 21 years now. My children know nothing less than an undying love for God and country.

I have the first that I know of Tats that depict the flag with the inscription "Love it or Leave it!". I got that tat in 1979 at the ripe old age of 16. I believed it then and I believe it now. I turned 17 just 2 weeks before graduating Marine Corps Boot Camp on Paris Island, SC.

And yes... before you ask... Many before me have succumbed to the call of freedom, and hence, so did I.

Did you?

I care nothing regarding race/religion/origin... I care beyond belief about cause/who can I kill today in the name of "A" god of mine/religious etremists... and to that end, stopping these zealots in thier tracks. Dead Cold, at that.

I am who I am...
You are who you are.

Welcome friend.

Yet...

If you should so desire to shed the blood of my brethern Americans,

I WILL kill you.

'Nuff Said.

and freedoms that allow you to say these things without being beheaded or hated.

No society is perfect. Reason, human beings are odd little animals.

I think you missed my point, floridaguy. It's not the simple little statement I have an issue with. It's the context I'm hearing it used in.

That's what it should mean, but unfortunately that isn't how most people mean it.

Okay good, I was beginning to think I was the only person who ran into idiots.

Let me clarify.

I have no problem with constructive criticism. I would not be able to live with myself if I didn’t speak out against things I thought of as unfair. Yes, if you see something wrong talk about it, let people know you think it’s wrong, try and get involved in ways to fix it.
I’m talking about people who do nothing but complain about everything under the sun: The people here are so rude. The place is crawling with <fill in the blank>, etc.

I don't know about most, but:

No Dear, Me-thinks not. I got your point and at the same time prescribed mine.

"We the people of the United States of America"......... while born of this land or not, came here of our free will, to love this land, our home, and of the ideals the we have set forth...

Freedom for one and all... freedom of choice, freedom to choose one's religion, freedom to conscientiously object should you so choose even... freedom to be an asshole even... et al.

"BUT, and I REPEAT... NEVER" take the lives of your fellow citizens for granted, to be used as pawns for your politics and/or religious views as you see fit.

Otherwise, you can "LOVE" this country based upon the free values it was created upon, or you can "LEAVE IT" by dragging your sorry ass back into the hell hole you escaped frome prior to entering into the true 'Utopia" of the world... America!

"America!
Love it!
or
Leave it!"

It's simple, really,... pledge a simple allegiance to where you plant your seeds of hope/life...

or more simply put:

Don't piss in your own water bowl.

A very profound and thoughtful comment and thread, here is my take.

I was born in Romania. A very bad place for Jews! We not only didnt like it, we,my parents and I were harrassed and persecuted. We didnt like it, and we couldnt do anything about it!

We came to America, penniless.

No language skills, no anything.

Within 10 hours of landing at JFK, my Father went to work, lifting boxes. I went to school.

My Mother learned English. My father, after 12 hours of work per day, went to English class.

No bi-lingual BS! No asking for handouts. HARD WORK.

Within seven years, my parents had a new house and a new car and a new life.

They always said. Thank G-D for America. If you cant make it here, you only have yourself to blame!

If you dont like the politics and policies of America, you can work for change. This is a Free Country and your voice is as effective as mine. If you choose to use it.

There are those here, that stick their hand out and say....GIMMIE

There are those here that enjoy the Fruits and Labor of so many, and Bitch and Moan about America.......

They can do what we did in Romania......LEAVE!......If they dont like it.

There was a story in the Wall Street Journal this week about many muslims and Pakistanis in particular, who feel they are being harrassed and leaving. Good. So many of them have come to this country to do us harm. So many of immigrants come here and feel WE OWE THEM! BS, They owe US!

The world clamors to get into this great country. When you get here CONTRIBUTE! If you dont like something, change it, via the democratic process.

The Ballot Box, Not Bullets and Bombs.

If you dont like this country and the freedoms it gives you.......Then my SIG line says it all.

Floridaguy, I'm trying to see your point, but I'm not getting it. Loving the ideals of this country and loving the reality of it are not the same.

One of the things I love most about America is it's potential. It's NOT a Utopia. It may be better than a lot of countries on this planet, but it is not perfect. It does however have the potential to be as close to perfect as one can resonably expect.

Bears repeating.
