OOC: Before I begin this I have to say that this is a private thread between papillon24 and myself.... sorry about that. You are welcome to read along and contact me to offer any comments if you would like to.

This is a typical love story. It is the story of how a man, desperate to find love actually finds it. So it is your typical love story- and I told you it was. I would have to say that it is about this man who falls in love with this woman and spends about as much time as he can with her but then a small mistake tears them apart and he tries to get her back. I won't say how it ends- it would ruin the surprise.

Craig stood in his shower and as the water fell down onto him he wonder what was going on with him and his life. His love life was really screwed up and he wondered why every woman he had been with only stayed with him for a month or two. He had been told that he was handsome and although he never saw it it was always told to him and women usualy watched him whenever he entered a room.
He sighed before he turned off the shower and got out of it. As soon asxhe dried off he wrapped a tower around himself and looked and himself in the mirror. He knew what he was doing would be called vain but he wanted to see what women would see in him. He stood at 6' 4" tall, 210lbs with an athletic build. He ran his fingers over his goatee then through his dark brown, almost black long hair. He shook his head and laughed- I am not handsome he told himself.
Craig turned away from the mirror and walked into his bedroom as he did. He grabbed his brush then hair tie from the dresser, brushed his hair then pulled it back into a ponytail. As soon as that was done he got dressed into his suit then grabbed his things and walked out of his apartment. As soon as he locked his dooor Craig turned into the hallway and as he walked down it he wondered what this day would bring into his life.

I finished preparing for my day at hand. I so hate work. All the typing and paperwork always piled up right before the weekend had even started. I was not looking forward to it.

Quickly I but my long blond hair up into a tight bun and smoothed out the wrinkles from my buisness suit the clung tightly to my petite frame. Quickly I rushed from my apartment locking the door quickly. Down the hall I saw one of my neighbors quickly smiling before I turned to leave

Craig

I tried not to think of the women that I had fallen for and been dumped by but the more that I tried the more I thought about them. What was I doing wrong with them, was I being too nice, not nice enough, showing them too much attention or not enough- what was it that they wanted? I sighed as I continued down the hallway and knew that they only thing that I looked forward to was work. I shook my head and the one thought that I had in my head was God, I hate my life.

Before I even realized it I was standing in front of the lift and I wondered what the hell I was going to work for? What had the money that I had made gotten me? I pushed the button on the wall and stood there, waiting for it to come up to my floor then take me down to the car park.

It was strange but he did not seem to notice her even as many times as she had tried to get his attention. Only a few doors down but the timing had never been right. Today he had seemed a hit more than depressed. The thoughts of why ran though her mind as she hurried down the step to her car.

Maybe someone had died of maybe he killed someone. Nah. She shrugged that horrible though from her brain as she started her car up to find out it wouldn't.

She stepped out for a mamnet only to fint that the battery was dead and she was already fifteen minutes late to work. He boss would be furious for this was the third time this week.

"Of all the luck!!" she spoke into the garage.

Craig leaned against the back wall of the lift and closed his eyes, preparing himself for the day to come. He wondered if he could get through this day really after the disaster the night before. Just then he heard a ping and opened his eyes when the door opened. As soon as he walked out of the lift the first thing that came to him was a woman's voice say, "Of all the luck!!" loud enough for anyone who was walking past to hear.

As soon as he heard that he knew that he had to see what this woman's problem was and offer any type of help. He walked towards where the woman's voice had come from and saw her standing there looking at her car. His first thought was that he knew her, she lived on the same floor as her but he had never asked her name and it was stupid of him. When he was close enough to her he cleared his throat.

"Is there anyway that I can help you?"

Melanie

She jumped as the voice spoke to her. As she turned around she saw it was her neighbor, the one from down the hall.

"I should probably ask you the same question. you looked so down on yourself as you got into the lift." I smiled and hoped that maybe he would too.

"Actually my battery died. I'll call the shop in a bit but I should get going to work. Thanks for the offer love. Your such a sweetheart." She stepped close and let a gentle kiss land on his cheak before hurrying out of the garage and hailing a cab to drive her to work.

Craig rubbed his cheek and watched as the woman raced out of the garage. Now that was truly weird was the first thing that he thought as he stood there. He stood there for a few more seconds, wondering if she was going to come back and let him give her a ride to work but when she didn't appear again he shrugged his shoulders and walked to his car.

His drive to work was completely uneventful and he made it there on time. As soon as he got to his office however he was surprised to see his latest ex girlfriend standing there. She looked straight at him as soon as he walked in and closed the door behind him.
"What do you want?" Craig asked.
"Craig, how can you speak to me like that?"
"You know damn why I can speak to you like that after what you did to me. Why did you do it Alexis- why the hell did you have to sleep with my best friend of all people."
"I slipped up Craig. I'm sorry; but I came here hoping that we could get back together."
Craig stood there and looked at her, wondering if he could take her back after what she had done to him but then a picture of her getting fucked by his best friend on his bed flashed into his head and he knew that there was no way that he could trust her again. He shook his head and looked at her.
"I can't Alexis. I don't know if I can't trust you any more, especially after what you did to me. Now please get out of my office so I can get some work done."

Craig heard Alexis let out a sigh before she walked towards the door. She stopped suddenly, wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed Craig on the lips. She kissed him deep and long before she let him go and opened the door. She turned in the door way and looked at Craig.
"You know what my number is Craig. If you want to get in touch with me again call me."
She walked out of the office, leaving Craig to close the door behind him. He walked to his desk and sat down wondering how much worse this day or his life could get before it got better.

Melanie found work to be boring as it always had been. The day was uneventful and left a bitter taste in her mouth. To her surprise Mr. Windemire had decided not to fire her and her job would stay intact at least for hte moment.

What a day she thought as she stared out the window beside her cubical towards the building across the way. Over there they seemed to have a bit more fun or so it seemed. The paper filing here was so dull and boring. They were overthere testing party suplies and other toys.

With a sigh she went back to her computer to finish filling the data for the medical comapnies before she put the hard copies away.

"Miss Portier" The voice had made her jump. She looked up to see her boss looking over her cubical wall.
"I need you rund this package over to the office on first and smith and give it to the manager there. It is urgent and I'm sure I can trust you to take care of it." With that he left letting the package sit on the desk.

She quickly picked it up and hurried down the two fights of stairs to hail a cab.

"First and smith and hurry"

The cab did hurry and dropped her off. She looked at the tall glass building and took a breath before hurrying inside and up to the main desk.

"THis needs to be delivered to the manager."

"Take it tot the third floor office is on the the right."

SHe hurried to the lift and got in and waited watching each number pass by. then she was there. She wadered to the office on the right and set the pacage down leaving a note with it and quickly turned to leave,

One her way out she glacned around and to her surprise there was her neighbor in the back corner in his office.

She made her way over and tapped on the door frame.

"Hello there. funny running into you again."

Craig's day had been as bad as the start of it but at least he hadn't had the manager come in and scream at him this time. He looked at the manuscript that sat on his desk and wondered if he would be able to get it finished in time. Everyone seemed to want things done in a second and because he was the best in the firm it usually fell to Craig to do the work.

He let out a sigh and began work on the manuscript again but before he could read any of it he heard a familiar voice and looked up. He was shocked to see his neighbor standing there and wondered what it was that she wanted. She surely wasn't here to see him but if that wasn't the case what was the explanation for it.

"Ummm hi, what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"

She made her way into the office and stood before him. Quickly she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear

"Oh, I was just in the neighborhood." With a quick laugh she went on. "My boss had be drop off a package to the manager here and I saw you from across the way and thought that I would say hello." She flashed a smile his way.

"So, why were you so depressed earlier?"

I looked at her and noticed for the first time how beautiful she was but then I shook my head and cleared that thought away. She seemed to be everywhere I was today and I wondered if someone was trying to send me a sign.

I took a deep breath, "Depressed? What do you mean.... oh; I was just wondering why no woman wants to stay with me. I was wondering what is so damn wrong with me that no women wants to spend more than two months with me. But I'm sure that you don't want to hear about that."

"Well love, I was just wondering. You just looked so down earlier. It almost brought my day down as well."

She stepped over to the desk and sat on the corner to make herself more comfortable.

"By the way, My name is Melanie Portier. I don't think we have really met except for a quick passing in the building." She held out her delicate hand to shake his

Craig sat back and looked at this woman, Melanie who was sitting on the corner of his desk and couldn't believe that only one thought came to his head. He wanted her to stay, she was the high point of his day- she was so damn beautiful and she wanted to get to know him but he wanted to do one thing- he wanted to work!

Never before had this happened to him but this one time his brains were actually over riding his dick. He looked at her and slowly got up off his chair to look at her. He moved closer and breathed in her perfume which was as perfect as she was. He wanted to grab her then and there and fuck her on the desk top but he shook his head.

"I can't believe that I am going to say this but you should really be going back to work. I want you to be here, do not think that I don't but I don't want you to be fired because of me- I don't want that on my conscience. But I want to get to know you so here is my cell phone number- call me as soon as you get back to work and we will make plans for tonight. If you want to see me that is."

She was surprised at his reaction to her pressence but she movedaway from the desk.

"TEll you what. I have a better idea. If you would like to see me then stop by my place for a glass of wine later on." She turned quickly and left the office hurrying quickly to the lift. She found his manner to be rude. All she wanted was to check on him and see how he was doing.

She hailed a taxi to take her back to the office and back to her many piles of data.

As he watched her walk quickly away Craig had one thought No wonder every woman leaves me. She probably thinks that I'm a jerk now. There is no way in hell she would want to go out with me. I am a fucking idiot. He slammed his fist down on the table, causing a woman walking past to look at him. She walked by quickly though, knowing that it would be best not to ask.

As soon as she was gone Craig looked out the window and said, "I am sorry Melanie. I didn't mean to do what I did and I will make it to you place."

He stood there for a few more seconds before he turned back to his work, the thing that was always there for him.

Work drug on for hours as the pile of paper kept filling her desk thoughout the day. Her mind wandered with numbers as she forgot about her invitation.

Finally when she looked at the clock it was time to go. Grabbing her coat she hurried out of the office making sure to grab her paycheck on the way out.

On her way home she made it to the corner mart making sure to grab something for dinner and a bottle of wine along with a few magazines for an evening of quite reading.

Melanie rushed home quickly kicking off her shoes in the from entrance before heading to the kitchen for dinner. She fixed herself a small steak salad with herb dressing and sat on the couch infront of the television to watch the news

As the day dragged on the only thing that kept Craig going was the invitation that Melanie had given him. He didn't know what to expect but he needed something to help him relax and the dinner invitation seemed just like the right thing. As soon as the time went to closing time Craig closed down his computer and rubbed his tired eyes. This had indeed been a long, arduous day and he was going to be glad to get out of here.

After he grabbed his suitcase he practically ran out the door, just missing the woman who had seen him slam his fist down onto the desk. He wished her a good night and walked quickly to the lift. He didn't mind that it was cramped, it was the end of the day and he was getting out of there.

As soon as he made it to the basement carpark Craig walked over to his car, got into it and started it up. As he drove along he wondered if he should bring anything and stopped at his favorite corner market to pick up some things to make for dinner. After he grabbed everything, including a couple of bottles of wine he grabbed some flowers- knowing how corny they would be.

He walked back to his car and drove back to his apartment block then parked in his usual spot. As soon as he shut off the engine and locked up the car he got into the lift and hit the number to his floor.

The ride up to his floor seemed long- in fact it seemed to last forever and he got even more nervous with each floor. All of a sudden the doors opened and he walked out onto his floor and straight up to Melanie's door. He softly knocked on it, wondering what she was going to say as soon as she opened it.

The knock startled her for a moment as she wondered who was there. Then it hit her. How could she have forgotten. She had invited her neighbor over. Her mind raced as she threw in a few steaks into the oven hoping she could stall till they were cooked.

Quickly she ran to the door looking though the peephole. She was right. It was him. Quickly Melanie opened the door showing her composure as if she had not compleatly forgotten.

"Come on in. I have dinner going in the oven right now. It would have been done but I got home late from work" She made her way to the counter. "Would you like a bottle of wine"

Craig walked slowly into the room and closed the door behind him then looked around. This place was the same as his but decidedly feminine and he found that he liked the way that it looked. He walked over to the kitchen counter and placed the bag of food on it.

"Of course I would love one Melanie. Unless you were kidding about that because if you were then I shouldn't have brought the two that I did."

He looked at her with a smile and handed her the flowers, "These are for you. For being a bright point in my otherwise dreary and totally dreadful day."

She blushed a little at her mishap of words.

"These are for you. For being a bright point in my otherwise dreary and totally dreadful day."

"A glass I mean and thank you" She took the flower and found a larger crystal vase to put them in and set them on the counter. Whe was she so flustered all of a sudden.

She poured him a glass of Merlot and placed it in front of him where he sat at the counter.

"I hope you like it. It is one of my favorite vinatages. 1996 was a good year for the french wines"

Craig took a sip of the wine and smiled, "You are right. This is great wine- thank you."

Suddenly Craig was at a loss for words as he looked at her and noticed just how beautiful she was. She could be wearing the most ugly, grubbiest clothes and she would still look beautiful. He couldn't take his eyes off her and he knew that he was staring but he could not help it.

He shook his head when he heard her voice and looked into her eyes to see that she was smiling and said, "I'm sorry, what did you say?"

She watched as he watched her back, a bit of a blush came to her face as she traightened the hem of her skirt.

Then the buzzer rang.

"Excuse me, I think dinner is ready."

She made her way to the oven and pulled out the steaks and placed them on two black glass disses and drissled a bit of wine gravy over top and setting a bit of salad next to them.

"I hope you like steak. I'm not good at cooking anyhting else."

She brought the two disses ove and set one in front of him and one at her spot.

Craig looked at the meal before him then looked at Melanie. He picked up his glass of wine and raised it.

"This looks like a beautiful meal and I love steak so I would have to make a toast to you. Thanks for the beautiful meal Melanie- here is a toast to you and I hope that the rest of this night is a good one as I would hate to ruin it for you."

He then cut a piece of the steak and put in his mouth, closing his eyes as he enjoyed the sensations that it was starting in his mouth. As soon as he swallowed the piece he looked at Melanie and smiled.

"That was the best piece of steak that I have ever had. Thank you Melanie."

She listened to craig's words as he made a toast to her and her cooking. She took a bite realizing it wasn't the best she had ever made but for tonight it would do.

"Thank you for your kind words." She lifted her glass to him. "Ant the same for you. I hope your night goes better than your day seemed to" With that she took a small sip and smiled. There was something about him that intrigued her as they sat there eating and chatting but she could not put her finger on it.

As soon as he swallowed the piece of steak and took a sip of wine he sighed and looked at Melanie.

"My night has to be better than this day. My ex girlfriend came to see me in the office today to see if we could get back together and this was after I found her in my bed with my best friend. I am so damn gullible and trusting that I didn't even see it coming and it sickens me. I mean why do women have to cheat on me- am I that bad to be around?"

I took another sip of wine then looked down at the bench top.

"I shouldn't throw this at you. You don't know me very well and I shouldn't make you have to shoulder my problems."
